Welcome back to school! Welcome back to school!

Welcome back to school! Our staff was thrilled to welcome so many students and families at Open House. There was so much excitement and energy in the building. I wanted to provide some reminder information that will help set us up for a wonderful first day of school.

School for all students in grades 1-5 begins on Tuesday, September 8th.

Welcome Week Schedule for kindergarten:

Only kindergarten students with last names A–L attend school.

  • Wednesday, September 9:
Only kindergarten students with last names M–Z attend school.

  • Thursday, September 10:
No school for kindergarten students – Family-Teacher Meetings (see below)

  • Friday, September 11:
No school for kindergarten students – Family-Teacher Meetings (see below)

  • Monday September 14:
First regular day of school for all kindergarten students.

School Information

School hours are 9:30 am - 4:00 pm. Students may be dropped off beginning at 9:15 am, and must be picked up in a timely manner at the end of the school day. Please do not drop students off early, as there is not supervision outside prior to the scheduled drop-off time.

Parent Drop-Off/Pick-Up:

Our parent drop-off and pick-up areas are located in the front of the building. Please access the drop-off lanes using 109th Avenue. Students must get out of cars on the curbside in front of the building (not on 109th). Students in grades 3-5 only are dropped off and picked up in front of Jackson Middle School. If you have students in multiple grade levels, please utilize the drop-off/pick-up ares for your youngest student. Our parking lots and drop-off line will be a very busy place, and there will be fewer transportation safety staff this year compared to previous years. Please be patient and cautious with pedestrians.

Walkers:

Walkers will be welcomed into both the front and back doors of the building. Staff will be providing supervision at both entrances. When planning to use the front entrance coming from the east side of campus, students should utilize the sidewalk in front of Jackson Middle School rather than the sidewalk on 109th. This will limit the number of driveways students need to cross, therefore increasing safety. Students who enter the back of the building will be entering Door #33. For safety reasons, please be advised there is NO vehicle drop-off in the back parking lot.

Students entering in the front of the building will enter through one of our the two main doors. Students in grades K and 1 will enter the building via Door 40. They will go directly to their classrooms to drop off their backpacks, and, if they choose to eat breakfast, they will then go to the cafeteria.

Students in grades 2-5 will enter door 44 (main door), but will be separated into two lines. One line will be for students who are choosing to eat breakfast. The other line will be for students who are going directly to class. Because our school serves such a high number of breakfasts, the goal is to increase efficiency into the cafeteria and get students fed and off to class in a timely manner. Our hope is this will reduce the number of students going to class, dropping off gear, chatting with friends and then deciding they want to go to breakfast. This tends to result in students being late to class, thus missing learning. While we will not deny students breakfast, if they go to class FIRST and then back to the cafeteria, they may not have the opportunity to access the full menu of breakfast options. We would very much appreciate your help with this process. Please speak with your grades 2-5 students about whether or not they will be going to breakfast each day, and if they are eating breakfast, remind them to get into the breakfast entry line so they can eat BEFORE going to class.

Thank you for your attention to this message. We are excited to welcome back our students next week, and are looking forward to an exceptional school year here at CBPA!
