Capitol Hill Weekly Update
10/16/26
Message from the Principal
One of the things I value most about our Capitol Hill community is the way we care for one another. In joyful moments and difficult ones, we are a community that notices, reaches out, and makes sure people know they are not alone.
Today is one of those more difficult moments. Many of us are holding the news from Bend, where a shooting occurred at an elementary school yesterday. Some families may have already heard about it, while others may be learning about it for the first time. Our hearts are with the children, families, educators, and community members affected.
We recognize that news of school violence may affect people differently. Some families may have personal connections to Bend or experiences of violence or loss that this news brings to mind. Others may not be significantly affected. There is no single response to expect.
At Capitol Hill, we will maintain familiar routines and instruction while responding with care to students who have questions or need support. We are not planning schoolwide discussions about the incident.
If your child brings up the news, consider asking what they have heard, listening to their questions, sharing brief, age-appropriate information, and limiting repeated exposure to upsetting images or videos. Children do not need to discuss the incident if they do not wish to.
If your child would benefit from a private school check-in or your family has questions about available support, please reach out to us. We will continue to respond thoughtfully to the needs of our students and families.
I’m grateful to be part of a community that shows up for one another, especially in difficult moments. We will continue to care for our students, our families, and each other in the days ahead.
In service to students,
Febe Armendariz
Principal

Volunteering Isn’t Scary- The Boo Bash Needs You
The Boo Bash is Friday, October 23, and we need a frighteningly fun crew of volunteers to make the magic happen!
Volunteering is not scary! Just choose a manageable shift, bring a friend, and join the fun. We need many helping hands before, during, and after the event to assist with activities, games, refreshments, setup, cleanup, and more.
Whether you enjoy being in the middle of the excitement or prefer working behind the scenes, there is a spot for you. No special skills or prior experience are needed, and instructions will be provided.
Please take a shift and help keep this beloved Capitol Hill tradition alive:
