Scholar of the Week

The Scholar of the Week for the English Department is Sahil Sami. "Sahil is an active participant in the classroom and never hesitates to volunteer to read, answer questions, and pose questions. Yes, sometimes he goes off-topic, but he engages with the text and thinks about it. When we read "A Modest Proposal," Sahil was both horrified and intrigued by the problem and solution Jonathan Swift proposed. I always enjoy his reactions to text - sometimes the "what the heck is going on look" and sometimes a laugh - but it shows just how engaged Sahil is in class. He truly exhibits the qualities of a Raider - a thinker, communicator, and contributor in the classroom. Thanks for all the anime education, the lore and conversations, and for making 1st Period English 12 entertaining and fun, Sahil."

Senior of the Week

Anna Lee was nominated by her counselor, Ms. Orozco. "I am truly honored to nominate Anna Lee for Senior of the Week. She is, without a doubt, one of the kindest students I have encountered in my time as a counselor. Whenever she visits my office, I know it will be a positive interaction filled with laughter, thoughtful conversation, and genuine warmth. I am incredibly proud of the young woman she has become and confident that she will succeed in whatever path she chooses. Anna, thank you for the light and positivity you bring into my office."

English Department English Department

Huzzah! In March, Mr. Falk's senior English students brought one of the Bard's most famous plays to life by performing Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Macbeth. Each scene was performed live, and students wore costumes of their own design, brought props, and memorized lines. This exciting project acted as the culmination to a six-week unit spent reading, analyzing, and writing about one of the most iconic tragedies ever written in the English language and allowed students to showcase their understanding in an active and creative format worthy of Shakespeare's approval.

Senior Seminar Presentations Senior Seminar Presentations

The Rowland Unified School District Career Certification Program provides students the opportunity to earn a Certification of Completion in addition to their high school diploma. In a multi-year sequence of courses, students have the opportunity to integrate core academic knowledge with Career Technical Education (CTE) courses to provide a pathway to post-secondary education and careers. Dozens of our Raiders presented their Senior Seminar projects to a panel of judges on Thursday, March 12th and Friday, March 13th. We could not be more proud of their hard work and dedication, most importantly all the vital learning that took place. A special thank you to our CTE Teachers, Peter Jacoy and Mike Frausto, for their support and guidance throughout the school year.

Korean Field Trip Korean Field Trip

Korean 4 and Honors/IB students had an exciting cultural experience during their recent field trip to the LA Korean Education Center. Students had a great time playing traditional Korean instruments and making phone stands using hanji, traditional Korean paper. They experienced Korean culture and also enjoyed trying Korean food for lunch. The field trip provided a meaningful opportunity for students to connect what they learn in class with real-life cultural experiences.

Wrestling Wrestling

The Rowland High School Wrestling program would like to recognize three outstanding student-athletes who advanced to the CIF Quarterfinals this season: John Xia (175 lbs), Zane Hindi (190 lbs), and Jaslene Orellana Higuita (110 lbs).

Junior John Xia continued to establish himself as one of the top wrestlers in the area. He finished the season with an impressive 37–6 record and captured his second consecutive Valle Vista League Championship at 175 pounds. John’s consistency, work ethic, and leadership were key factors in the team’s success this year.

Senior Zane Hindi also had an exceptional season at 190 pounds, finishing with a 35–7 overall record and placing 8th at CIF. Zane demonstrated resilience and high-level competitiveness throughout the year, advancing deep into postseason competition and representing Rowland with pride.

On the girls side, Sophomore Jaslene Orellana Higuita continued to make history for the program. She is a back-to-back CIF Masters qualifier (2-2 at Masters this past weekend, 2 wins away from qualifying for the State tournament), placing 6th at the CIF tournament this season, and finished the year with a 25–13 record. Jaslene’s achievement reflects her dedication and the continued growth of girls wrestling at Rowland High School.

Advancing to the CIF Quarterfinals is a significant accomplishment that reflects the commitment, discipline, and perseverance these student-athletes have shown throughout the season. We are proud of the way they represented Rowland High School, both on the mat and in the classroom.
