2025 Recap & Look forward to 2026
Goodbye 2025!
2025 was a challenging yet successful year for our club. We created and adopted new Club branding. We facilitated our annual Suns Tag and Metro leagues, with nearly 100 players collectively participating. We held our annual corn hole tournament with a fun twist. We hosted the first-ever California Cup in June, at which our Suns men's team were victors! We hosted another batch of Rising Suns Youth Footy Clinics, welcoming some new families. Both our Suns Men's and Women's teams brought home Regional Championship Cups from Denver in July! Our men took a trip down to San Diego for the Rob Dollar Cup. We went camping (Camp Sunshine) together, watched the AFL Grand Final together, raised some money for Nationals, and had another successful Nationals campaign, followed by a wonderful Awards Gala.
USAFL Nationals Suns Recap
For the USAFL's 20th Anniversary of Women's Footy in the U.S., our Sacramento Suns Women, led by head coach Vicky Schoennagel and captain Christine Muthasamy-Flok, combined with the Denver Bulldogs, put together one of the best Nationals Campaigns in our club's history--knocking off Golden Gate Iron Maidens and the Austin Crows on their way to the Division 1 Grand Final. Our Suns fell to the Minnesota Freeze by only a kick, but can hold heads high as the D-1 Runners-Up. Our Men brought a full side, and although falling to the New York Magpies and the Austin Crows on Saturday (both Grand Finalists), the Suns soundly defeated the Houston Lonestars on Sunday--making two years in a row that the Sacramento Suns men have won at least 1 game in Division 1 at Nationals. Congratulations to all our players on another great Nationals campaign!

I want to express gratitude for the 2025 Board members, board advisors, outgoing head coaches Vicky Schoennagel and Andrew Loewen, members of the various committees, and club supporters who made 2025 happen successfully. I am looking forward to another great year with another great group on the SAFC Board. As a well-known club member is often heard to say, "Here we go!"
