Take Flight 🦅

On Wednesday, January 29th, 18 West Leyden students attended the West Suburban Conference Student Leadership Day at Downers Grove North High School. During the workshop, they engaged in icebreaker and team building activities, and networked with students from the 15 other schools in our West Suburban Conference. West Leyden's WSC student leaders are excited to share the ideas they learned at the workshop, and look forward to working with administrators, Student Activities, StuCo, and other clubs to help make West Leyden be filled with even more school spirit!

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with Student Activities this Thursday, 2/6, in the Commons. There will be a variety of activities you can participate in to celebrate the Year of the Snake.

Lunar New Year, also called the Spring Festival, is a 15-day celebration marking the start of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. Traditions during the Lunar New Year include exchanging red envelopes with money, enjoying festive meals, watching lion dances, and decorating with red colors to symbolize good luck and prosperity. Lunar New Year is an important holiday in China but is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Are you interested in learning about the practical applications of psychology and having a deeper understanding of the human mind? If so, join the Psych Club! Pictured are Amy Carrera and Andrea Lopez doing the sensory rubber hand illusion. In this experiment, a participant's real hand is hidden from view while a rubber hand is touched at the same time as their real hand. The participant eventually feels as if the rubber hand is their own! A shout-out to Ms. Raducha for literally 'lending a (rubber) helping hand' to the club! Contact Mr. Dempsey for more information.
