December Chit-Chat: Holiday Edition

Thank you to our Southside Community for the generous donations to our annual Penny Drive! Your contributions will directly support our local food pantries, helping to restock their shelves and provide for families in need. Just before school lets out for the holiday break, our SLT will use the donated funds to shop for supplies and deliver them to the pantries. Your kindness truly makes a difference!

It is coat season again, so please send your children with a coat, hat, and gloves every day to keep them warm at recess! If your child could benefit from a gently used coat, hat or gloves please contact our school at 764-6183!

Your student may come home and say, "It was a Red Flag Day today." Just in case you're new to Southside, this simply means that the temperature (with windchill) was zero or below and students ended up staying inside for recess rather than outside braving the elements! Other weather events may necessitate a Red Flag Day such as heavy rain, dangerous surface conditions due to ice or heavy snowfall, etc.

Dear Parents,

We are excited to invite you to Southside Elementary’s Holiday program on Thursday,

December 18, 2025, at Powell High School Auditorium.

The first show will feature Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. They will perform from 6:15-6:45 p.m.

We will then have a 15-minute intermission for the audience to exit, if they so choose, and for new audience members to enter for the second show.

The second show will feature 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students and Southside Kids Chorus members. It will run from approximately 7:00-7:45 p.m.

Thank you for having your children dressed in their best. Reminder: Students may not wear hats, caps, Santa hats, antlers, etc. during the program. See the map below for your child’s room assignment. Please remember there is no food or drink allowed in the auditorium.

The students have been working very hard to prepare this production. Performance is one of their music standards, so it is very important that they are in attendance. We look forward to you joining us for an evening that is sure to put you in the holiday spirit!

First Show - Grades K, 2nd, 4th – Begins at 6:15. Please have students in their rooms by 6:00 (Doors open at 5:45).

Kindergarten - Choir room Room # 1163

To locate the Choir Room, go in the front door, take a right at the "Cafe Panther" sign and continue down the hallway. Please keep your child’s coat with you. After the first program’s “Finale”, Kindergarteners need to be picked up from the stage.

2nd Grade – Mrs. Hildebrand’s Room # 1098

This room is located in the "Green" pod. From the front door, go down the hallway that is located between the "Cafe Panther" sign and the "Welcome to Powell High School" sign. You will see a wall of green lockers. Take a right at the end of the locker hallway. Room #1098 is the first classroom on the right. You may pick up your child here after the first show.

4th grade – Library Room #1032

The library is located under the “Welcome to Powell High School” sign directly off the Commons area. You may pick up your student here after the first show.

Second Show – Grades 1st, 3rd, 5th, and Kids Chorus – Begins at 7:00. Please have students in their rooms by 6:45.

Doors to auditorium open at 6:45 for the second show (1st, 3rd, and 5th) . Please enter auditorium from the gym side. The doors in the Band and Choir hallway will be used for EXIT ONLY.

Supervision for children in Grades 1st, 3rd, 5th in the rooms listed below is not available until 6:30. If you are watching the first show, you will need to have your children sit with you in the auditorium.

1st Grade –– Mr. Hawley’s Room #1099

This room is located in the "Green" pod. From the front door, go down the hallway that is located between the "Cafe Panther" sign and the "Welcome to Powell High School" sign. You will see a wall of green lockers. Take a right at the end of the locker hallway. Room #1099 is the second classroom on the right. Please keep your child’s coat with you. After the 1st, 3rd, 5th grade “Finale”, 1st graders need to be picked up from the stage.

3rd Grade – Band Room # 1170

Go in the front door, take a right at the "Cafe Panther" sign and continue down the hallway. You may pick up your child here after the program.

5th Grade – Mr. Stenlund’s Room #1100

It is located in the "Green" pod. From the front door, go down the hallway that is located between the "Cafe Panther" sign and the "Welcome to Powell High School" sign. You will see a wall of green lockers. Take a right at the end of the locker hallway. Room #1100 is the 3rd room on the right. You may pick up your child here after the program.

Helpful Hint: Please put your child’s name in their coats, hats, and even gloves. This gives them a higher chance of getting them back if lost. If your child is missing something, please check the lost and found which is overflowing with many student coats, hats, gloves, etc.
