Mr. Mauck's Musings
School News:
On Wednesday next week we have some tremendous opportunities for our students. The Freshmen will be attending the tour of opportunity. They will meet at VUJ and then travel to a tour of a career in which they have interest. All the sophomores will be taking the PSAT and may be doing community service or a job shadow after the test if they have turned in their permission form. The Juniors and Seniors will have a variety of activities. They may be taking the PSAT, SAT, going on a college visit or job shadow, or performing community service. All Juniors and Seniors must have turned in their permission forms or they are expected to be at JHS for the whole day. All of these activities complete a graduation profile exemplar and provide experiences to explore future opportunities. We are in the middle of Hispanic Heritage Month and our Spanish teachers have put together a short quiz to test your knowledge of Hispanic Heritage.

We are celebrating Mrs. Keusch and the “Shakespeare Insults” project in our spotlight window. Some fantastic work here!!
Six of Crows is a fantasy novel written by the American author Leigh Bardugo and published by Henry Holt and Co. in 2015. The story follows a thieving crew led by criminal mastermind Kaz Brekker, who plots to break into a high-security prison. The novel is primarily set in the city of Ketterdam, which is loosely inspired by Dutch Republic–era Amsterdam. The plot is told from third-person viewpoints of five (seven if the opening and closing chapters are considered) different characters.
The novel is the first of a duology, completed in Crooked Kingdom (2016). An additional novella named Six of Crows: A Darker Shore, set after the duology, was published in June 2026. The series is part of Bardugo's Grishaverse. Main character Nina Zenik's storyline continues in the King of Scars duology: King of Scars (2019) and Rule of Wolves (2021), with the other Crows making brief cameos in the latter. They are also featured in the Netflix television series Shadow and Bone (2021–2023), the series' first season giving them an original storyline, including time with characters from Shadow and Bone like Nikolai Lantsov and Genya Safin. Wildcat Corner
Jasper High School is fortunate to have a school-based enterprise (SBE), our school store. SBEs are managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories that integrate standards in marketing, finance, hospitality, human resources, and management. SBEs provide realistic and practical learning experiences that reinforce classroom instruction. The Wildcat Corner is a major learning component in the Business Program. The teacher and coordinator for this program is Mrs. Jessica Mehringer.
The success of the Wildcat Corner depends on the commitment of students in the Small Business and Business Administration Capstone classes as these students are responsible for working in the school store as part of their work based learning experience.
