  • Students being picked up by car will wait in the undercover area. Car pick up is along the yellow curb in the main parking lot.

Arrival and Dismissal Protocols Arrival and Dismissal Protocols

Arrival

Students should arrive to school between 7:45 and 7:55am. Classes begin at 7:55am. Students can use either the Main Entrance or the Activities Entrance to enter the building starting at 7:45am. Students arriving after 7:55am should use the Main Entrance.

Vehicle drop off is along the main parking lot sidewalk. Students should exit vehicles from the passenger side. If your child needs your assistance exiting the vehicle, please park your vehicle in a parking slot as not to disrupt the flow of traffic in the drop off lane. When exiting the parking lot, vehicles must only turn RIGHT. This also helps to keep traffic flowing. There is no student drop off in the bus lane. The bus lane must remain clear of all arrival traffic.

Breakfast service begins at 7:30am. Students eating breakfast will enter through the Activities Entrance starting at 7:30am. See the Nutrition Department webpage for pricing.

Dismissal

Students are dismissed at 2:15pm from exterior classroom doors. On early release Wednesdays, students are released at 1:15pm. K-1 students who are walking home need to be picked up by a chaperone. Grades 1-5 can be picked up in the care line, but Kindergarten students must be picked up from the exterior classroom door. Kindergarten students will not be released to the car line by themselves.

Update to Arrival Protocols Update to Arrival Protocols

As a part of our annual safety and security review, our district elementary team has been thoughtfully considering how to make our elementary arrival and dismissal times as safe as possible. One major safety concern for our buildings is the entry of parents into the building for drop off in the mornings. Allowing parents to enter the building without background checks or scheduled volunteer times, creates a large breach in our building security measures. As such, we are going to continue to keep our arrival (and dismissal) procedures the same as last year. Students will enter through the Main Entrance or Activities Entrance and walk down to their classrooms independently. Students will be released from classroom exterior exits at the end of the day. This will still provide parents with the opportunity to check in with teachers at pick up if needed, and will also help us to very closely monitor who is in our buildings at all times.

Volunteers and parent helpers will still be welcome in our schools during pre-scheduled volunteer times with our PAC or our classroom teachers. Additionally, parents are encouraged to attend our Meet & Greet on August 28th from 4-6 pm to visit classrooms and see the building. We will also host an in-person Back to School Night on Thursday, September 21st from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, and in-person conferences in late October and early May. It is important to us that we balance both student safety and parent involvement in our school community, and we believe this plan will allow us to do both.

Volunteer Background Checks Volunteer Background Checks

Every volunteer in Sherwood School District must have a criminal background check completed each school year (July 1-June 30). Background checks take 7-10 business days to process. Background checks are required for each school year, so background checks completed prior to July 1, 2023 are not valid for the 23-24 school year.

Once your background checks clear, names are added to the approved volunteer list for all SSD schools. Please note: no approval notice goes out to cleared volunteers, so if you have questions about your submission or want to confirm your background check has been processed and approved, please contact the office of the school you would like to volunteer

To complete the volunteer approval process for 2023-24, please complete the form below:

  • Volunteer Background Check Form
  • Volunteer Background Check Form - Spanish

Bus Transportation Bus Transportation

  • 2023-24 bus routes will be available on the Ride360 app after August 21.

  • To access the Ride360 app, you will need your student's ID number, and will need to enter student birthday in a MMDDYYYY format. For more information on this app, please visit the Transportation Department website here.

  • Alternate Destination Request forms will be accepted during the 2023-24 school year. An alternate destination is defined as any stop that is not the stop assigned to a student eligible to use District transportation based on their place of residence. The Alternate Destination Request must be completed by a parent/guardian, submitted to the student's school, and approved by the Transportation Department in advance. Please note: The approval process can take up to 2 weeks to complete, and student will not be picked up/dropped off at the alternate destination until the parent/guardian has received notification of approval from the Transportation Department. To access this form, please click here or contact your student's school.

  • Courtesy riders will be allowed this year as bus capacity allows. Students should request a form from their school to be given to the bus driver; notes from a parent/guardian given directly to a bus driver will not be accepted.

For more information or assistance with bus transportation for your student, please contact the Transportation Department at 503-825-5900.
