A Few Weekend Reminders 🐯
We’ve had another good week at JWMS! As we continue settling into the school year, here are a few things families can help us with this weekend.
🎒 Backpack Clean-Out
Please take a few minutes this weekend to help your student clean out their backpack. Many students are carrying around way more than they need each day! Extra school supplies can stay at home and be replenished as needed. This will help keep backpacks lighter and lockers organized and usable.
🦠 Germs Are Making Their Rounds
Unfortunately, we’re already seeing the usual germs and illnesses that come with being back together at school. Please give water bottles a good wash this weekend and remind students:
Don’t share water bottles or drinks with friends.
Wash hands regularly.
Cover coughs and sneezes.
Keep those middle school germs to yourself! 😊
💻 Chromebooks & Grades
Please make sure Chromebooks come to school charged and ready to go every day. This is also a great time to check in with your student about grades and missing assignments.
Remember, students with 2 or more Fs this week will be placed on academic probation. If they still have 2 or more Fs next week, they will become ineligible and will not be able to participate in or attend district activities.
📚 Need Some Extra Help? ASAP!
Our ASAP after-school program is available Monday–Thursday until 4:30 p.m. in Mrs. Kahler’s room. Students who need help with homework, missing assignments, studying, or just getting caught up are encouraged to take advantage of this extra support.
🐯 A Quick Behavior Reminder
For the most part, behavior at the beginning of the school year has been good, and we appreciate your help reinforcing expectations at home.
Please talk with your student about keeping their hands to themselves and using appropriate, respectful language. Cussing is not appropriate at school, and neither is yelling “shut up” at someone. We know middle schoolers can get frustrated with one another, but there are much kinder and more respectful ways to ask someone to stop, give you space, or change what they are doing.
Our goal is pretty simple: keep your hands to yourself, watch your words, and treat people the way you want to be treated.
As always, thank you for partnering with us to help our students have a successful school year.
Be a good person for no reason. 🐯❤️
Please sign off on the JWMS Handbook. WE have a LOT who haven't don't this yet.

Social Emotional Learning
Our students are off to a great start with Social Emotional Learning! Each Thursday during Advisory, students participate in lessons from our CharacterStrong curriculum, which helps them build the skills they need to be successful in school and beyond.
Right now, students are focusing on building connections, strengthening relationships, and creating a positive and supportive school community. Throughout the year, they will explore topics such as emotion awareness, teamwork, kindness, empathy, and more.
We are excited to partner with our families as we help students grow not only as learners, but also as confident, caring, and responsible members of our community.
Career Exploration
Throughout the school year, our students will be developing their Individual Plans of Study through activities in Xello, Student-Led Conferences, career exploration, and more. One of the exciting ways we can help students begin thinking about their futures is by connecting them with real people and learning about the many different career paths available to them.
Do you have a career, profession, or area of expertise you would be willing to share with our students? We would love to connect students with members of our community who can provide insight into their career experiences!
