The Week Ahead at SAC

April 27 - May 1

The WeekAhead at SACApril 27 - May 1

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming soon!

The switch from classroom to remote teaching and learning is like flying a plane while you are trying to build it. Throughout this pandemic, every staff member at Sacajawea has been working through technology breakdowns, revolving expectations and lots of unknowns! Through it all, they continue to develop new lessons to support children at home.

The week of May 4 is Teacher Appreciation Week. I would love to collect notes, pictures, letters, poems, etc. from your scholar about their teachers. Please send them to ddennis@fwps.org. Even something simple will be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Dominique Dennis

Self-Care Strategy: Practice Kindness

Hello again Warrior Students and Families!

It’s hard to believe that we are in our sixth week of school closure. It seems like all the weeks are blending together. So much has happened in the past six weeks but look how far we’ve come with remote learning and accessing education in ways we’ve never done before. We are so proud of our students and families for their commitment and participation, we cannot do this without you!

In talking with people this week, it seems like the “novelty” of the world’s situation has worn off. The days wear on and boredom is often close by. Now the real work of staying positive and connected to each other begins. One of the ways to do this is to look for ways to be kind to each other. We saw on the news that people in Italy started singing from their balconies to stay connected to each other. People are calling and texting each other just to check in and say hi. Nearly every night, somewhere in the world, people are clapping and cheering for first responders and health care providers. What positive and kind things to do! And so simple to do.

So, for our students this week, your Social-Emotional Learning activity is this challenge: To help yourself stay connected to people and stay positive,

1. Do three acts of kindness this week.

2. Notice how the recipients of your kindness respond.

3. Notice how you feel once you’ve completed the action.

If you can be anything in the world, be kind!

We believe in you! Have a good week!

Weekly Meal Update - pick-up on MONDAYS only

As a reminder, our meal program model will be shifting to provide 5 days’ worth of meals every Monday. This change will begin Monday, April 27, 2020.

Why the change?

Reducing to a one-day meal pick-up schedule supports the governor’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order, saves on transportation time and cost for families, and helps keep our community healthy and safe.

How will the meals program work?

  • Meal pickup will occur on Mondays only.
    • One exception: Since Monday, May 25 is a holiday (Memorial Day), distribution will occur on Tuesday, May 26.
  • Parents may pick up a week’s worth of free meals (five breakfasts and five lunches) for their children.
    • New change from USDA: Parents may pick up for their children ages 18 or younger. Child does not need to be present.
  • All ten meals will be provided in two grocery bags to ease transportation.
  • The bags will come with a five-day menu to ensure the meals provide nourishment for all five days.

The locations and meal pickup times at each site will remain the same.

A complete list of sites serving free “grab and go” meals for children ages 18 and under can be found on our website here: https://www.fwps.org/meals.
