2025-2026 Schedule Update
We have received some feedback about the information that I sent this week regarding the LMS Schedule for next year. We have been working on another round of communication, including a few tweaks. We are still working on putting the final touches on that update, and I'll send it out to everyone as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work through this transition to our new schedule.

Food Chains
Students in 5th grade finished their unit on food chains and decomposer by completing some worm observations. Through their observations, students learned that worms seem to prefer damp areas over dry areas and they like to get out of the light. So most students observed their worms trying to "hide" under the wet paper towel or under the black piece of paper.

Math Word Problems
During math class, students were asked to work together in groups to solve word problems. Students had an in-depth discussion about different methods they could use to solve the problem. They were invited to share their work with other groups and present their ideas.

Anxious Generation Book Information
As we start thinking about summer plans and a shift in routines, it can be helpful to consider how technology and social media will play a role. This week we have two more resources for parents and caregivers related to growing up in a phone-based world.
Let Grow Project This nonprofit has information on how to grow independence in children. This link takes you directly to the parent resources. There are some ideas that might be particularly useful as you head into the summer.
Social Dilemma This 2020 docudrama explores the impact of technology and social networking on society. Available on Netflix.
Library News
End of Year Library Information
And just like that we are staring at the end of the school year! While the library continues to be open, books and materials stop circulating a couple of weeks before the last day of school. With hundreds of books in circulation right now, please note our final due date of 2024-25! All books checked out by students must be returned by Friday, May 30. This allows us time to follow up with overdues, track down missing items, prepare to inventory our collection and order replacement copies when necessary.
Access to SORA ebooks and audiobooks will continue to be available through the rest of the school year and summer. This year we also have audiobooks available on Learning Ally! Summer Reading information will be out soon.

6th Grade Hosts the 2nd Annual Ancient Civilizations Museum
In Mrs. Westgate's 6th grade Social Studies class at Lebanon Middle School, students became historians, geographers, and time-traveling tourists as they explored the fascinating worlds of Ancient Greece, Rome, Persia, China, India, and Egypt.
As a culmination of their learning, students proudly presented their work at the 2nd Annual Ancient Civilizations Museum, held on May 8th in the LMS Library. The event followed a gallery-style format, where students displayed their research boards and shared their projects through live presentations. We were thrilled to welcome 5th graders (our future 6th grade historians), 7th graders, parents, faculty, and staff to celebrate their hard work and learning.
Leading up to the event, students conducted in-depth research into each civilization’s geography, religion, achievements, politics, economy, and social structure (GRAPES) using a variety of sources. These included district-approved digital databases through the LMS Library, as well as resource books and trusted websites. Students practiced essential research skills and created a works cited page to document their sources.
To deepen their understanding of geography and human settlement, students created detailed custom maps that included key landforms and water features. They even considered where crops would thrive based on natural resources and climate, making real-world connections between environment and civilization development.
As a creative extension, each student became a time-traveling tourist and designed three original postcards from their ancient civilization. Each postcard featured a hand-drawn image representing an event, place, or experience and a letter written in character, describing life in the ancient world to someone in the present day
The postcard topics included:
How and where people settled
A celebration, festival, or holiday
A cultural or societal difference compared to modern times
We are incredibly proud of the thought, effort, and creativity our students poured into their projects and presentations. Thank you to everyone who visited the museum and supported our young scholars as they brought the ancient world to life!
