A Message from Dr. Angel Turner
SACC Programming Clarification
Dear District 65 Community,
We are writing to provide additional clarity and help alleviate concerns following the message earlier this week regarding the School Age Child Care (SACC) program.
To clarify, the discontinuation announced this week applies only to Optional Care service (provided on half-days when school is not in session) and Flex Care (flexible, drop-in childcare) when families have unexpected child care needs. These are additional, optional services of the SACC program and will no longer be offered as of next school year (2026-2027).
The SACC before- and after-school child care program will continue to be offered next school year as usual at King Arts and all elementary schools, with the exception of Washington Elementary. For the past two years, the SACC program at Washington has been underenrolled (less than 10 total students in both am/pm) and our projections show that this trend is expected to continue. This update was previously shared with the Washington community.
We appreciate families reaching out with questions and understand how important child care services are to daily routines and planning. As a reminder, alternate care options were shared in the communication issued this week.
Our goal is to provide families with the information and time needed to make arrangements for the upcoming school year and to offer support should these service changes impact your household. If you have specific questions about SACC services, please contact Dr. Deborah Osher, Director of Programs and Partnerships, at osherd@district65.net or at 847-859-8134. Thank you for your continued partnership.
