Celebrating Future Teachers!

The Chelsea Center Teaching and Learning Cohort (TLC) is celebrating three exceptional future teachers who began launching education careers during their junior and senior years: Kennedy Combs, Maggie Cook, and Clover Harris–the future is looking just a little brighter knowing you will be leading and teaching youngsters in the future! These TLC students studied the art of teaching and the science of learning through seminar classes, observations, small group instruction, and supported teaching opportunities in K-8 classrooms throughout WGSD. They also had the option to earn dual credit through Webster University’s School of Education and be credentialed for their substitute teaching certification upon completion of the course.

The next TLC course will begin in August, and rising juniors and seniors can still enroll! Interested students should contact their guidance counselor to request the course.

Another wonderful opportunity for students to test the waters of a future career in education is a summer seminar being offered by Webster University: The 2026 Art of Teaching workshop for high schoolers will take place in the School of Education at Webster University from June 22 - 25, 10-3pm daily. This unique and fun experience allows teens to try real teaching activities, learn how teachers engage students, and build confidence speaking in front of groups. Chelsea Center is spreading awareness of this opportunity, but we are not able to offer credit or payment. Webster University is collecting a fee of $165 for this workshop.

Reminder: We can help students who are pursuing their A+ hours find connections to service learning that include the mentorship or job shadowing components the A+ program requires. Have your students stop by to talk with us, or independently explore their GivePulse account opportunity listings at wgsd.givepulse.com.
