Reaching Full Potential (Staff and Community Edition)
What does reaching full potential look like for our staff and community?
For staff, it means being the best we can be so our students can reach their full potential. That includes engaging in professional development, working collaboratively, creating clear structures, setting goals, and doing everything possible to bring out the best in our students. This commitment strengthens the entire educational community at Ingraham.
Last week, our staff came together to connect, review schoolwide goals (goals were in the last newsletter), develop Tier One strategies, develop common academic language, and collaborate with Professional Learning Communities to prepare for the first unit of the school year. We also looked at ways to improve our practice through the lens of Universal Design for Learning and multilingual support and, of course, we had some fun. As a first-year principal, I feel fortunate to work with a staff who care about students as a whole and are committed to helping Ingraham thrive.
For the community, reaching full potential means supporting and working alongside us to help your student succeed. Support can take many forms: communicating with staff, volunteering, joining parent groups, helping reinforce responsible cell phone use š (more on that below), asking your student what theyāre learning, and advocating for our school.
Reaching full potential means all of us working together and doing our best to ensure Ingraham students can be their very best, both in and out of school.
Cell Phones
At Ingraham High School, we believe that cell phones can negatively impact student learning. If we want our students to reach their full potential, cell phones must be put away during the school day. We recognize this is a huge challenge but can be overcome if we all work together.
Before the school year starts, please talk with your student about the importance of keeping their phone put away in their backpack during class. Also, please refrain from texting or calling your student during class time unless itās an emergency. On our end, we will reach out if cell phone use becomes a problem. Continued misuse will result in progressive discipline, which may include lunch detention, a cell phone use contract, and/or a meeting with administration and family to determine next steps.
We truly appreciate your partnership as we work together to support student focus, learning, and success.
Introducing New Assistant Principal Mr. Wheatley
My name is Michael Wheatley, and Iām so excited to be joining the Ingraham community as an assistant principal. Ingraham is an incredibly special place with strong traditions, a fantastic staff and student body, and a bright future ahead. Iām originally from Pasco, Washington, and have been an educator in New York, DC, Italy, Kent, and Seattle. My goal as an educator and leader is to work together with students, staff, and families to create a school culture where all students feel a strong sense of belonging and thrive. I believe high school is such an important time in our young peopleās lives, and Iām excited to work together with you and with our Ingraham staff to help our students reach their full potential. Iām looking forward to meeting you all and to having a great start to the school year!
