Welcoming all to Robert Bracker Elementary

Dear Robert M. Bracker Elementary Parents,

Welcome again to the 2024-2025 school year!

Please allow me to share some updates

August and September Events

⮚ The Meet the Teacher event held on August 5th was a huge success. Parents and Teachers were able to establish communication to assist your child in starting the school year successfully. Teachers expressed the importance of attendance, parent communication through Thrillshare Rooms on the NUSD #1 App, and downloading PowerSchool to see student grades. Please check your child's backpack and request to see the communication and newsletters the teacher provides. Teachers emphasized the importance of regular school attendance, completing homework, and arriving at school rested and well-prepared. Parent engagement is critical to your child's success, so please attend all regular meetings, events, activities, and information sessions.

⮚Open House was held on August 21st at 4:00 P.M. Parents were able to meet their child's teacher and learn more about the curriculum and materials to be used throughout the year. Thank you to all those who were able to attend. Additionally, a Title I meeting was held to discuss programming, tutoring, support, and services Title I provides. If you have any questions on our action plan, volunteering, or any other information regarding what Title I provides to our school, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Payne at Jpayne@nusd.k12.az.us. Technology was also discussed for applications such as Thrillshare, PowerSchool, Clever, TestNav, Imagine learning, and HMH. If you had any questions, please reach out to Mr. Duran Aduran@nusd.k12.az.us. The library is a valuable resource for your child. If your child needs any books or materials/resources, please reach out to Mrs. Chavez at Cchavez@nusd.k12.az.us. We at Bracker have the theme Superheroes this year, and we want your child to feel their superhero powers as they access all the school has to offer. Please refrain from checking out students early from school, and ensure they are here on time every day.

⮚ Bracker held its first semester English Language Learners meeting to discuss the English learner program, resources, and supports, as well as the assessment used to determine English Learner Progress (AZELLA). More information on this assessment can be found at https://www.azed.gov/. In the meeting, the team discussed computer access to CLEVER, TestNav, and practice you and your child can do. The goal of the program is for all our students to master the proficiencies of the English language, including listening, speaking, reading comprehension, writing, and fluency in English. We value your support to help your child reach their goals. If you have further questions, please reach out to Ms. Munguia at Pmunguia@nusd.k12.az.us. Additionally, you can reach out to Ms. Villegas, Principal Secretary at Rgvillegas@nusd.k12.az.us, Ms. Larios, school nurse assistant Llarios@nusd.k12.az.us, and Ms. Torres, school attendance clerk at MarthaT@nusd.k12.az.us.

⮚ Some upcoming events include the Santa Cruz County Fair projects and a field trip hosted by the third grade. The trip will be on September 12th, while projects are due, September 5th. Challenge testing will be held on September 10th and 11th. The third-grade parent meeting will be held on September 24th at 8:00 a.m.. We encourage all 3rd-grade parents to attend. Student Council Election Speeches will be held on September 26th. The fourth grade will have a presentation by the Tumamacori mission to encourage outdoor activities on September 9th. Fall class pictures will take place on September 19th.

Great news! Our playground equipment installation is nearing completion for the first of three playground/swing sets.

Please allow me to reiterate the importance following all school guidelines, and NUSD governing board policies.

Robert M. Bracker Elementary Guidelines:

⮚ All students are required to wear their school uniforms on the first day of school and every day of the school year, unless otherwise noted for special events, such as spirit days. The uniform remains the same, which is Navy Blue or White top, and khakis (shorts, skirts, pants) or unripped blue jeans. The Bracker Parent Teacher Committee will be selling neon colored Bracker Dolphin logo shirts, and are acceptable for the dress code to be worn daily if you choose. Joggers, sweats and black attire are not allowed. All shoes must be closed-toe, and no sandals or crocs are allowed.

⮚ Breakfast and lunch will continue to be served for free. Free Breakfast will be served in the classroom every day of the week from 7:30 am to 7:45 am.

⮚ Students are required to be on time! Student attendance is a must in reaching our academic goals. Classes begin promptly at 7:45 am. after breakfast in the classroom ends. A copy of the attendance and tardy policy is enclosed.

⮚ Students are expected to be respectful and follow all Nogales Unified School District and Robert M. Bracker rules and procedures. You will be receiving an updated 2024-2025 NUSD Discipline Matrix being sent home the first week of school with your child. Please read and understand our school and district rules.

⮚ No Cell Phones, Air pods, Nintendo Switch, iPad, or other electronic devices or any toys and play items , energy drinks, candy and food items other than healthy lunch items are not allowed on campus. The item will be confiscated, and the parent/guardian must pick it up from the principal’s office.

⮚ No fighting or bullying is allowed on campus or on the school bus. The NUSD #1 guideline will be followed including a report to law enforcement. A copy of the district’s Discipline Matrix will be provided to each student and parent/guardian.

⮚ Your child will receive homework daily. Robert M. Bracker Elementary is dedicated to having our students achieve academically and homework to practice is an extension of the student’s learning.

⮚ If your child is riding the bus, contact Citizens Auto Stage at (520) 281-0400 ext. 4138 for a schedule or questions. For your child to ride the bus, your address will be screened to determine if the child is eligible for transportation.

Please follow the drop off and pick-up procedures outlined in the school handbook.

Drop off times are from 7:00-7:40 a.m. The gates are locked at 7:42 a.m. and you must park in the lot and come sign your child in after 7:42 and they will be considered tardy. Simply arriving to the school at that time does not constitute a timely arrival since students need to be in class before the late bell, ready to start learning. You may use the drive or park in the lot and accompany your child in the crosswalk to the front gate. Parents can walk their child to class for the first partial school week only, and thereafter, students must walk to school by themselves.

Pick-up times are 2:45 on regular days, and 12:45 on early release Wednesdays, barring special early release days, which are on the calendar we send out, and you will be reminded as well via messaging. Pick-up must be done by the driver only, who is the parent/guardian or designated pick-up person listed in PowerSchool. We can not assume anyone can pick up your child, and they must be in PowerSchool as a pick-up, not simply an emergency contact. Pick-up must be done in the designated drive daily. There are no exceptions for cutting in front of the line to park and get out of the vehicle. Everyone must follow the rules for safety. Your child will be radio-called from the cafeteria and supervised as they walk to the front of the school to be picked up. Should an appointment or event necessitate an early pick-up, you must call the office and check/sign your child out before 2:25. Simply arriving at 2:40 to pick up your child without advance contact to the school prevents a safe and orderly dismissal procedure. Again, you must wait in the dismissal line off of Camino Diez Mandamientos. We will not dismiss students to parents walking up to the cafeteria to forego the dismissal line. Dismissal will begin 10 minutes early the fist two weeks of school to alleviate traffic.

  • Uniform:

Students are required to be in uniform every school day. Uniforms are: Navy blue or white shirt. Khaki bottoms can be pants/skirts/shorts, as well as un-ripped jeans, are also allowed. Shorts and skirts must be approaching knee length. For safety reasons, flip-flops are not allowed and tennis shoes must be worn.

    2. Before/after school tutoring
    3. IEP Services for our Ex Ed students.

    5. Lessons and instruction to meet accelerated or specialized student needs.
    6. Dedicated administration who are accessible and available for parent concerns/questions/visits
    7. Fun and engaging school year with:

      2. Dolphin of the month lunches and events
      3. Student awards, recognition and announcements.
      4. Free breakfast and lunch for all students daily.
      5. Clubs and fun after-school activities

The Bracker community thanks you for entrusting us with your children. This is not a trust that we take lightly. We care about our students and will strive to do our very best— every day—to make sure that our students are progressing, productive, and happy.

This year, all NUSD schools will be using Apptegy/Thrillshare to message teachers and the school, as well as provide all communication. More information on how to download the application is forthcoming. Again, welcome to another year of infinite possibilities! Please do not be a stranger. At Bracker, everyone is welcome. I look forward to seeing all of you!

    Joshua Payne, Principal

I. If you have any questions on our action plan, volunteering, or any other information regarding what Title I provides to our school, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Payne at Jpayne@nusd.k12.az.us. If you had any questions, please reach out to Mr. Duran Aduran@nusd.k12.az.us. If your child needs any books or materials/resources, please reach out to Mrs. Chavez at Cchavez@nusd.k12.az.us.

Torres, school attendance clerk at MTorres@nusd.k12.az.us.
