From the Principal's Desk
Gunnison Middle School Families,
Happy Halloween, GMS families! The halls were filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of creativity today as students and staff showed off their amazing costumes. A big congratulations to Mr. Jones and the GMS Band and Choir for their outstanding performances this week. Our students’ talent and hard work were on full display, and we’re so proud of the dedication they bring to the stage. We also had a very successful first night of Parent-Teacher Conferences on Wednesday—thank you to all the families who attended and took time to connect with teachers about your student’s progress. We appreciate your partnership and engagement!
Congratulations to the boys and girls cross country teams for their performances at state last week - 1st place Boys (State Champs!) and 8th place Girls!
Wishing everyone a fun and safe Halloween weekend!
Take care,

🍂 Greetings from the PTA!
Fall is here, and we’re getting ready to support our amazing community school staff during conferences! The PTA is organizing a Conference Potluck Meal on Wednesday, November 5, and we need parent volunteers to help by bringing dishes or items.
Sign up to contribute or volunteer at www.gunnisonvalleypta.com — thank you for helping us show our teachers some love!
State Assessment Testing
Each year, students in Colorado participate in state-required assessments that provide valuable information to families, educators, and the community. These assessments are mandated by state and/or federal law and help ensure that all students receive a high-quality education aligned to Colorado Academic Standards. Results help us understand how well students are meeting grade-level expectations and guide instructional planning and program improvement across the district. Learn more about the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) in this letter from our Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
Free Meals for All- Information and Application
Gunnison Watershed School District will continue to operate the Healthy School Meals For All program for the 2025-2026 school year, This means that breakfast and lunch are free for all students during this school year through December 2025. If HB 25-1274 passes, all students will continue to receive free breakfasts and lunches all year and for the foreseeable future. Even when school meals are free, it's still very important for eligible households to complete the Free & Reduced Meals Application. Why? Because your eligibility helps your student(s) qualify for school-related discounts and waivers on things like fees or extracurricular activities. Plus, the school district receives vital federal funding based on the number of students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals. So, your application directly benefits both your child and our schools!
COLD WEATHER IS COMING!
Please be sure to check the weather in the morning and encourage your kiddos to come to school in the appropriate attire. (We know middle schoolers can be stubborn... hide the shorts if you need to. You have our permission)
ORDER YOUR 2026 YEARBOOK NOW!
If you order personalization, there are four free icons
for you to choose through the end of October!
GMS Yearbooks are still ONLY $20! They will be delivered
in May but you can order now and never worry that we'll run
