Mohegan Update 10/30
October 30th, 2026
CONGRATULATIONS MOHEGAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
This week, Superintendent Ken Saranich announced that Mohegan Elementary School earned the School of Distinction Award from the State of Connecticut for their scores on the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) this past spring! While the SBA is only given to third and fourth graders, the award is a tribute to all of our teachers and staff who laid the foundation for these students. I want to thank all of the staff for their relentless work providing high quality instruction to our students. And I want to thank our parents for partnering with us to help all our students achieve to their highest potential.
MUSTANGS READ TOGETHER
We are at the end of Charlotte’s Web! The last chapter is due on Monday. We hope that you enjoyed reading the book with your families and were able to have family conversations about the themes of kindness, sacrifice and life.
Family night is Thursday, November 5th for those who signed up. If you have an older student (high school or older) who would like to volunteer and help that night, please have your child email Lacey Hebert at lhebert@sheltonpublicschools.org. This is a great opportunity for high school students to earn volunteer hours.
PARENT - TEACHER CONFERENCES
It was wonderful seeing so many parents at Parent- Teacher conferences this past Thursday night. We will have afternoon conferences on November 11th from 2:30pm-5:00pm. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have not yet signed up.

VETERANS DAY

We ask that Veterans arrive prior to 1:45 so we can review the ceremony with them. Veterans will also have an opportunity to go to classrooms and speak with the students if they want. If you have a family member who would like to come in and be a part of the ceremony and speak to the class of his/her family member, please sign up here. Please sign up by Friday, November 6th.
All students are asked to wear Red, White and Blue on November 10th for the Veterans Day ceremony.
Finally, next week, students will be sent home with a small poster they can make for a Veteran in their family. The poster can be for any Veteran in their family, living or deceased. They can include a real picture or draw one if they don’t have a photo of the Veteran. Please return these posters to school by Monday, November 9th. All posters will be returned to the students so you get your pictures back.

VISION OF A GRADUATE
Shelton Public Schools has adopted their Vision of a Graduate (VOG). These 6 attributes are what we expect all Shelton students to have when they graduate from high school. At Mohegan School, we want to show students that these are attributes that we can demonstrate throughout our academic years and beyond. Every month we will focus on a different attribute. October’s attribute is: EMPATHY - the ability to listen and understand others’ perspective, needs and culture.
