Principal's Corner
Dear BFPP Families,
Happy New Year! So many wonderful memories of last year and I am looking forward to making 2024 just as magical. This month there will be several happenings, including registration for 2nd semester, mid-year conversations, assessments and all of the other regular BFPP things. Please read the newsletter every Friday as there will be important updates.
The next published newsletter on 1/19 might even have the 2nd semester schedule. We worked closely with families last year and had a TPEST (The Parent Enrichment Schedule Team) develop a schedule framework and guidelines for us. We are working on having a more consistent and predictable schedule for all.
Did you notice the temperature change....in the building we now have tubing providing regulated ambient warm air, you can really feel the difference....outside the building it is definitely feeling like winter. Be looking at the forecast ahead (that currently includes snow), listen and watch for school delays or closures due to inclement weather and make safe (and fun) decisions for your family accordingly.
As always, I am grateful for all of you! - Dr. K

Introducing Sheri!
Hello! My name is Sheri Robinson.
I’ve lived in Bellingham with my family for over 21 years. My two children are in their twenties, with one still living at home. I grew up in North Vancouver, B.C. and went to college at WWU and Portland State University to study teaching. I enjoy reading, writing, walking and dancing. I also love Italian food and chocolate and watching British mystery programs.
Please welcome Sheri as she settles into her role as our new Office and Library Assistant!

iReady Winter Assessment Window ~ Register By 1/10
The iReady Math and Reading assessment is our district's K-8th grade growth and diagnostic tool for skill building. Families may use this assessment to personalize instruction, monitor progress and measure skill gains and achievement. Participation in this assessment is the choice of the family; however, MyPath, a supplemental online curriculum for math and reading, can only be accessed by taking iReady.
Important information about iReady:
- iReady will help determine areas of strength and growth in reading and math
- iReady should be used 3x a year (fall, winter, spring) to chart your child’s growth
- iReady is an adaptive, online assessment that corresponds with My Path online curriculum
- iReady is done at home with your technical guidance, but not your help
- The assessment is open for those who register from January 11th through 24th
- Learn more about i-Ready by watching the following videos:
You must register your child to take the iReady assessment. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
Registration is open now through January 10TH at 3:00pm.
Once registered, you will have the window of January 11th-January 24th to complete the assessment at home by using the iReady link. The iReady link is found on our BFPP website under the “Academics” tab. Be aware that the assessment is only available during school days and hours; Mon-Friday 7:00-4:00pm. Your child must have a school district laptop for the assessment. If you need a laptop, please contact Peggy Gallegos. Please connect with your Learning Partner and/or email Erin McCarthy with questions.
NAEP Assessment Opportunity
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) provides important information about student achievement and learning experiences in various subjects. Also known as The Nation’s Report Card, NAEP has provided meaningful results to improve education policy and practice since 1969. Results are available for the nation, states, and 27 urban districts.
During the 2024 school year, the NAEP schedule includes assessments in mathematics and reading at grades 4, 8, and 12 and science at grade 8. There will also be Pilot testing in mathematics and reading at grades 4 and 8, to help improve future NAEP assessments. Grades 4 and 8 have been chosen to participate at BFPP. The 4th grade assessment will be on February 6th, and the 8th grade assessment will be on February 21st. More information about how to participate will follow.
Please contact Kate at kate.baehr@bellinghamschools.org with questions.
