Greetings fellow Lions,

I hope that everyone had a great January despite the cold and snow. Please keep me in your prayers. I am going into Philadelphia February 3rd to have a procedure done.

Please note the change of venue for the District Cabinet Meeting on February 7th. I found out last week that the church in Parkesburg double booked the date with the Scout's Pinewood Derby and we had to find another venue.
Penningtonville Presbyterian Church
406 Main Street
Atglen, PA 19310
Cabinet Meeting starts at 9:00 AM
Special Meeting of PDGs to vote to install Lion Demetrios Thermenos as 2nd VDG starts at 8:30.
I have visited a number of clubs in January but unfortunately had to cancel a few due to hospitalization. Visiting clubs is the thing I enjoy most about being District Governor. It is great meeting everyone and learning more about their clubs and the types of service and fundraising activities everyone is doing. While visiting the clubs I have been presenting Chevron Awards to Lions to commemorate their length of service within Lions. We as Lions should be grateful for everyone's commitment and dedication to service. I feel honored to present awards to members who served for 30, 40, 50 years and even longer. We have a Lion within our District, Lion Robert A. Adams of the Oxford Club who received an 80 year Chevron. Congratulations and thank you for your years of service.

District Governor's upcoming visits and events
February 2nd Mohnton Cumru / Shillington (Governor Mifflin)
February 4th Paoli Berwyn Malvern
February 5th Coatesville
February 7th District Cabinet Meeting Penningtonville Presbyterian Church, Atglen
February 10th Coventry
February 14th Spring Symposium, Harrisburg
February 18th Kempton
February 21st Bing Miller, Honey Brook
February 26th Honey Brook
Again, any thoughts and suggestions are encouraged and welcome. Please feel free to contact me anytime.
Yours in service,
DG Mike

Hello Lions friends,

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to take part in some incredibly

meaningful events as part of my Lions leadership journey. I attended the Vice

District Governor training weekend alongside my fellow VDGs at the state office

in Harrisburg. It was an energizing and collaborative experience that reinforced our

shared commitment to serving our local communities through meaningful service

and strong leadership.

I also had the distinct honor of inducting the Avon Grove High School Leo Club

officers and welcoming their new members into the Lions family. Seeing the

passion and leadership in these young individuals was truly inspiring—they are the

future of our organization and a powerful reminder of the impact we can make

together.

Soon, I will be heading back to Harrisburg for the 3rd State Council Meeting. In

addition to important discussions and planning, we’ll also be coming together for a

hands-on service project—packaging food that will be distributed to food banks.

It's another great example of how we, as Lions, live out our mission of service at

every level.

1 ST VDG Paula Hilbert

ABOUT BEACON LODGE

Attached is a flyer promoting the rental possibilities at PA Lions Beacon Lodge
Camp. Our goal is to have Beason Lodge become a year-round facility. There is an
exerted effort made to generate interest in leasing the camp during the off season
from September to April. During those months, the primary source of income
is from rentals.
We ask that you include the attached rental flyer in your District Newsletters.
To make rental arrangements and to include specific services, please contact Lion Kelly McMullen, Programs Director at 814-542-2511or Kellym@beaconlodge.org.
The camp can be leased for Lions and business retreats, family gatherings, business conferences, weddings, etc. and our chef is on site if meals are desired in the rental package.
Thank you, best regards,

Thank you,

More Lions Means More Service

Communities all over the world rely on Lions to feed the hungry, rebuild after disasters and so much more. As these needs continue to grow, so must our membership. We must continue to start new clubs and recruit new Lions so we can be there when we’re needed the most.

__22 cubs and 1 advisor met for the first time in 2026. We kicked off our meeting by discussing kindness. We talked about how we can show kindness to ourselves, to family at home, to peers at school, and everybody in our community. We brainstormed small ways to show kindness in each area. After, each cub received a blank calendar for January, and they wrote down one way on each day we can perform an act of kindness (even something as small as saying hi or thanking somebody that may not be thanked often). They took home the calendar as a reminder as well as notes of positivity that they cut out to spread around their school, home, and community.

Cubs participated in a "New Years Resolution” Icebreaker activity. The EC Lions also created a vision board of the goals and good deeds that they would like to accomplish for the new year. The students also created a kindness calendar for the month of January. Students were able to brainstorm and write down all the different things that they could do to make a difference in our community. The students were excited to start the new year off with various acts of kindness.

This month the Lion Cubs created encouragement cards to brighten someone’s day. During our meeting, students learned about the Lions’ mission of service and the importance of kindness in the community. They selected from pre-written positive messages or used sentence starters to write their own notes. Students decorated their cards and reflected on how small acts of kindness can make a meaningful impact. This project focused on empathy, positivity, and community care, giving our Lion Cubs a hands-on way to serve others even within our school.

17 cubs and 2 advisors met for our January meeting. We completed our annual winter activity, where we decorate snowflakes and hang them on the staff's doors to welcome in the new year and celebrate winter. This is a beloved tradition as the cubs love to run around the building to make sure each and every staff member gets a snowflake.

Our next meeting is February 19th when we will begin to prepare for our Spring Food Drive.

STUDENT LION GUEST

At the Kennett Square Lions Club's January 15th club meeting, a student Lion guest from China was hosted.

Her English name is Judy, and her legal name is Yushi Zhou (pronounced you shir joe). She is a member of the Hilo Hawaii Lions Club.

The Hilo Lions Club is the oldest on the island of Hawaii and the second oldest in the State of Hawaii. The Hilo Lions Club will be 95 years old in two years. We have had a sister club in Japan for 58 years.

Lion Judy is looking for a job and can stay in the U.S. if she finds one by the end of February 2026. Otherwise, she will have to return to China. I hope one of your members can hire her or refer her to someone they know who can hire. Her University of Pennsylvania master's degree is in Psychology, with a focus on human behavior and economics. She is fluent in English and Chinese. Please contact kennettsquarelionsclub@gmail.com
