Leadership Message Leadership Message

It was truly wonderful to see so many families filling our halls during parent-teacher conferences, and we are deeply grateful for the meaningful partnership and trust that connects our school and your homes. As our November break approaches, Scripture reminds us in Matthew 11:28 of the gift of rest, and we pray this upcoming week offers your household a sacred opportunity to slow down, disconnect from daily routines, and recharge body, mind, and spirit. May your homes be filled with God's peace, gratitude, and unhurried moments together, and we look forward with joy to welcoming our students back to school refreshed and ready on Monday, November 16.

Warmly,

Mrs. Erin Croft (Principal) & Mrs. Jennifer Maynard (Assistant Principal)

Individual Support Plans (ISP's) Meetings Individual Support Plans (ISP's) Meetings

If your child is on an ISP, you will receive an email on Monday, November 16th with all of the meeting details, and the booking link.

Regardless of whether you are booking a meeting, all ISP's are required to be signed. The due date was October 30th. Please log into PowerSchool to view and endorse your child’s ISP if you have not already done so. Please refer to the instructions below, which can also be found on our website.

Step 1: Log into PowerSchool https://powerschool.eics.ab.ca/public . Please select your student on the top bar.

Step 2: Under "Additional Resources", click "Individualized Support Plan".

Step 3: Click “Manage”.

*Once you are in the ISP, you can view the contents of the ISP by scrolling down.

Step 4: Please click "Add Parent ISP Endorsement" at the top left of the page.

Step 5: You can provide an optional comment, but then must click "Submit" to finish endorsing:

Parent Meetings will be held on Monday, November 30th, Wednesday, December 2nd, & Friday, December 4th. The purpose of these meetings is to review your child’s ISP and to answer any questions you may have. We understand that some families are already in regular communication with their child’s teacher and may not feel a meeting is necessary at this time, which is absolutely fine.

An email will be sent home on Monday, November 16th with all of the details, and the booking link.

Winter is Approaching Winter is Approaching

The weather is changing and winter is upon us. Our EICS Division Administrative Procedure 134 provides guidelines for us at Saint John XXIII for responding to the winter months.
  • The suggested guideline is that students do not go outside if the temperature is - 25 C or colder. The suggested guideline above is at the discretion of school Administrators and staff as part of their consideration for determining whether recess will be inside or outside. Outside time is sometimes shortened or withheld to accommodate winter conditions

  • Morning: Supervision begins at 8:30 am, please do not drop off students prior to 8:30 am. Doors open at 8:35 am. Students should always be entering the school through their designated doors.

  • Outdoor breaks are a very important time for students for play, get some fresh air, and exercise. We will go out almost every recess; rain, snow or shine. Please ensure that your child comes prepared for the weather. Recesses will be indoors only during extreme weather conditions deemed unsafe to head out for even short spurts. We have three recesses a day.

We know from research that outside play is so important for a child's mental, social, emotional, and physical well-being and we will do all we can to support daily outside play as much as possible.

If you have any questions, please contact the school.

One of our hallways was transformed into a Saint Gallery Walk this week. Each class created a Saint Poster, and all the posters filled our hallway so that students could learn about Saints. Learning about the saints is important because their stories show us that real people—just like our students—can make mistakes, choose kindness, and do amazing things with God's help!

Thank you, families, for your generous support! By tossing socks for the Bissell Centre, our students and staff lived out the heart of Jesus, who called us to clothe those in need and love our neighbors. Your kindness will keep many feet warm this winter.
