Hello Centerview families!

What a great short week it has been! Our all school $5.00 from 5 People was yet another success for our Parent Teacher Organization. It’s great to see how everyone chips in through a variety of ways to support this event that builds community and a sense of belonging at Centerview. Not only was there a great turn out with the envelope submissions, but a great turnout at our Family Fun Run on Tuesday!

As a result, the ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE was completed this afternoon with a well-deserved COLD RUSH! Students love it, and it was another opportunity to smile, laugh, and have some fun! Check out the PTO messaging below for further details.

Recess then lunch at Centerview? We are finding greater success with students heading out with energy to exact and find more time to eat and finish their Commons Café meal. While there are contrary thoughts, we’ve found students are exuding energy and eating well. We will continue to work on transitions and our student experience.

There is no school tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday. Centerview staff will be spending the next two days engaged in professional learning and preparing for upcoming conferences. Together, we will focus on students’ academic progress within our student-centered learning environment and identifying next steps in our design to further enhance student success. It’ll be a full two days of learning, reflecting, designing, and planning. We look forward to sharing more with you as we head into conferences!

Conferences are happening over the next two weeks on October 13, 14, and 22. Check out the conference link below to sign up for conferences, and reach out if you have questions.

Sign up for parent teacher conferences.

We’ll see our kiddos back in school next Monday and Tuesday and then it’s fall break next Wednesday, October 14 through Friday, October 16. There won’t be a school newsletter next Wednesday. We’ll look forward to seeing you for conferences.

Take care,

Mike

What a Fun Run!

We had an incredible time at our Fun Run! We couldn’t have asked for a better weather day to celebrate our students and our school community. We are so grateful to the many families who came out to cheer on, walk, and run with our students. A special thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped make the event such a fun experience for our kids!

We are so thankful for the amazing support we continue to receive from our Centerview families. We have already raised an incredible $9,000! What an amazing start! And because of all your support, we still got to take the plunge with Ms. Netzer, Mr. Lenny, and Mr. Callahan, who bravely took a splash of ice-cold water as a reward for helping us reach our fundraising goals!

The Fun Run Donation Link will remain open through the end of the week, so keep those donations rolling in! Every dollar helps support our students and the activities, events, and experiences the PTO is able to provide throughout the school year.

Thank you for making our Fun Run such a success! We are so grateful for our Centerview school community!

Apple Theme Kindergarten Week

As fall has arrived, kindergarten students have been enjoying a fun-filled week learning all about apples! During Apple Week, students participated in many engaging and delicious activities. They listened to stories about apples, practiced counting apples, sampled different apple varieties, and voted for their favorite color apple: red, green, or yellow. They also enjoyed tasting apple juice while learning about this popular fall fruit. Apple Week has been a wonderful opportunity for students to learn, explore and celebrate the season.

Powering Schools with the Sun

A year ago, Centerview Elementary and Westwood Intermediate and Middle School began generating electricity from the sun. State and federal grants covered 90 percent of the cost, and one year later, the results are solar-iously encouraging.

Centerview and Westwood are not the only district schools benefiting from solar energy. Read more about how we're Powering Schools with the Sun.

Winter Market (and Thrift Shop)

Community Education will be hosting the Winter Market for our students/families again on Saturday, December 5. This is an opportunity for students to shop for inexpensive items to give as gifts to loved ones for upcoming holidays and gift-giving events. There are two ways you can participate and help make this a great event:

  • Donate Panther gear for the Thrift Shop: Donate your gently used Panther gear with current SLP branding and get a coupon to use in the Panther Store for a future purchase. Gear will be re-sold at thrifty prices to students, staff, and families at the Winter Market. Plan to drop items at the DSC to get your coupon; email your questions to PantherStore@district16.org.
  • Donate gift items for the Winter Market Gift Shop: Donate gently used, almost new, or new items to the Winter Market. Bring items to the District Services Center to the attention of Community Education. Items appropriate for the Gift Shop include: small household items, household decor, puzzles, board games, jewelry, figurines, décor, kitchen gadgets, children’s books, cookbooks, etc. Think about items a child would be excited to pick out for an adult in their life, and what an adult might be happy to receive and use in their daily life. We are especially looking for items that could be gifted to men.

Questions, please contact us at SLPComEd@district16.org.
