Dear Traeger Elementary Families,

I cannot believe this is our final newsletter of the year! This second semester has flown by and there are only 5 weeks of school left. With that comes the end of our 5th grade students’ time with us here at CTE. It has been so fun getting to know them and see them grow this year. We are excited to wish them well on their next adventure (and for most just on the other side of the building) and hope they know they are always a part of our school family!

Throughout the month of May as students continue their learning, they will participate in and work with teachers on various assessments to track their progress and see their growth in reading, writing, and math from throughout the school year. The best preparation for each of these is for students to keep on learning!

With this being our last newsletter of the year, I have a few thank yous to share:

  • Thank you to the students for making this year full of smiles, laughter and lots of learning!

  • Thank you to the families for your continued support in your student’s learning. We truly cannot do it without you!

  • Thank you to the staff for all they have done this year to make a difference with students, helping them grow in social, emotional and academic areas.

  • Thank you to the phenomenal PSC for all of their support, events, and overall involvement in our school community! All that you do for everyone involved is incredible.

You will notice continued construction to our CTE site the rest of the summer as they finish the pod addition, renovate the entrance/exit to the front parking lot, and install a new playground. Our building is closed for the summer after June 5th, including the playground and front parking lot. It is estimated it will be re-opened August 17th. This does mean that the playground is not open for play over the summer for the community. We are excited to have a few more 4K classrooms join the Traeger building next year in the new pod addition for one year.

We hope you all have a wonderful summer spending time with family and friends, enjoying all the summer activities, and of course continuing to read, learn and grow! Over the summer it is important and helpful to remember to continue to read each day, check out education camps/programming (summer school and the library have many great options!), play games involving math, sight words and more! We look forward to seeing you all next school year.

Wishing You Well,

Kristin Burgert

TICK SEASON IS HERE

Tick season may not be exciting, but we can take steps to stay safe. The wooded areas around our school are common tick habitats, so students should check their clothes for ticks when they arrive and after recess.
If a tick is crawling on skin or clothing, it should be removed right away and a teacher notified. If a tick is already attached, the student should inform a teacher and go to the health office. Parents will be contacted so they can remove it or, if able, health staff will remove the tick. If removed, the tick will be kept in a clear bag in case identification is needed later.
The CDC has great information on tick removal, bite prevention and when to contact a doctor after a tick bite. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at elizabeth.lynch@oshkosh.k12.wi.us

Parents and guardians that are dropping off/picking up students are NOT allowed to "pull through" the Landscaping Solutions lot across the street. Their business has a private drive for employees and customers that are parking and conducting business. They have a lot of trucks with heavy equipment and trailers moving through the lot at any given time and do not need additional people "zooming" through the lot and causing an accident.

The parking lot behind the building by Door #11 is for staff and buses only. Please do not drop students off there.

Supporting an Upset Child At Home
This year we have discussed the three brain states, growth mindset, the Safe Place, composure, and noticing without judgment. These skills and elements are helpful when we are supporting an upset child, no matter their age.

My child is upset. How can I help them?

  1. Check your inner state. If you are upset and in your survival or emotional state – walk away and calm yourself first. Our state dictates our child’s state; you need to be calm to support your child.

  2. Breathe with them multiple times. Focus on at least three slow, controlled breaths. Notice their body matching yours and beginning to relax.

  3. Find opportunities for connection and closeness, ex: have your child sit in your lap, long hugs, singing a song together, or continuing to breathe. Once they are calm, talk through the problem and come up with a solution.

🎒 2026-27 School Year Registration 🎒 2026-27 School Year Registration

It’s time to look ahead to another wonderful year of learning and growth! Online Registration (OLR) / Annual Student Update for the 2026-2027 school year opens April 1 for all returning Oshkosh Area School District K-12 students and new 4K students.

To secure your child’s spot and ensure they are ready for the fall, please log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal beginning April 1 to register and verify your information.

What You Need to Know:

  • Streamlined Forms: We’ve made it easier! Universal field trip permissions, athletic forms, dental care, and digital GO Transit access are now built directly into the online process.

  • Busing & Transportation: If your child is eligible and requires busing, you must complete the transportation questions within OLR by August 16 to guarantee service for the first day of school.

  • New 4K Students: Enrollment for our free 4K program also opens April 1! Current families can simply add a new 4K student while completing their annual update in the Parent Portal.

  • In-Person Support: If you need language assistance or computer access, join us for Centralized Registration Day on August 5 at Vel Phillips Middle School.

How to Register: Log in via the Infinite Campus website or the "Campus Parent" mobile app (available on the App Store and Google Play). Click “More” on the bottom left, then select “Online Registration.”

Read our 2026-2027 Online Registration Guide for the full update and instructions!

Help Shape the Future of Our Schools! Join us at the Summit Help Shape the Future of Our Schools! Join us at the Summit

What should our schools focus on for the next five years? We want you to help us decide.

The Oshkosh Area School District is hosting the Oshkosh Schools Summit this spring, and every parent’s voice is vital to this process. Forget the presentations - you’ll be working directly with neighbors, staff, and students in a three-day collaborative conversation to identify the priorities that matter most to our kids and our city.

The results of this summit will directly shape the district’s goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the next five years.

When:

  • Tuesday, April 28: 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM

  • Wednesday, April 29: 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM

  • Saturday, May 2: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Attendance at all three days is strongly recommended as each session builds on the last.

Where: Menominee Elementary School - Cafeteria (915 Hazel Street, Oshkosh WI)

We’re Making it Easy to Attend: To support our families, the district is providing free food and drinks, on-site childcare (registration required), and transportation/translation services upon request.

RSVP Today: Ready to commit? We are grateful! Click here to RSVP.

All voices are needed - parents, families, students, staff, and community members! Please consider inviting those you know and make a plan to be a part of the Summit!
