Dress Code

As you prepare for back-to-school, please refer to the BISD Student Handbook and campus addendums regarding expectations for dress code.

BISD Student Handbook Link - https://www.bowieisd.net/o/bisd/page/bisd-student-handbooks

Why Dress Code Matters

Our dress code helps create a positive, safe, and focused learning environment for all students. When students arrive dressed appropriately for school, it minimizes distractions, promotes respect for themselves and others, and allows everyone to concentrate on learning. Dress code expectations also help prepare students for future workplaces and community settings where professional appearance is important.

We appreciate the partnership of our families in ensuring students come to school dressed according to district guidelines. By working together, we can maintain an environment where every student feels comfortable, confident, and ready to succeed.

School on a Friday?

BISD has a 4 day instructional calendar with Fridays being flex days for students. On flex days students may be asked to make up missed instructional time because of too many absences, serve consequences, or attend instruction to fill in gaps. It is also a day to catch up on assignments or work on projects. However there are 2 Fridays on the 26-27 calendar that are regular school days where students will be expected to be in attendance. Please help us continue to have excellent attendance by not scheduling appointments or being out of town on August 7th and September 11th. The 26-27 BISD Calendar will be located at the bottom of each monthly newsletter for your connivence.

Vacation planning starts HERE!

Plan Ahead for Family Vacations โ€“ Attendance Matters!

As you begin making plans for the 2026-2027 school year, we encourage you to use our scheduled school holidays and breaks for family vacations and travel. These breaks are built into the calendar so students can enjoy quality time with family without missing valuable classroom instruction.

2026-2027 School Breaks

  • Labor Day: September 7
  • Parent/Teacher Conference Day (Student Holiday): October 16
  • Thanksgiving Break: November 23-27
  • Christmas Break: December 21-January 1
  • Spring Break: March 15-19
  • Possible Bad Weather Day: April 16
  • Memorial Day: May 31 (after the school year)

Every day in the classroom matters. Students build knowledge and skills through daily instruction, collaboration with classmates, hands-on learning, and teacher supportโ€”experiences that are difficult to replace when they're absent.

By planning vacations during these scheduled breaks, you help your child stay on track academically while still creating lasting family memories. Thank you for partnering with us to make attendance a priority and helping every Jackrabbit have a successful school year!
