FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Hello, Jaguar Family!
We hope you enjoy this well-deserved three-day weekend! Wow, another week has passed us by, and our Jaguars continue to work hard.
📝📚 Beginning-of-Year Testing
Last week, our third- through fifth-grade students locked in and completed their Beginning-of-Year assessments. This week, students will continue setting academic goals with their teachers.
Our kindergarten, first-grade, and second-grade students will begin testing this week:
📖 Tuesday, September 8: MAP Reading
➕ Wednesday, September 9: MAP Math
⏰ Please ensure your child is present and arrives at school on time each day. Third- through fifth-grade students who missed an assessment last week will also complete make-up testing.
We need every student to test so that we can identify their starting point, set meaningful goals for the school year, and provide targeted support during intervention and WIN time.
🎉💰 It Is Fundraiser Time!
Jaguar families, it is time for our biggest school fundraiser of the year! When you hear students talking about special parties, incentives, and field trips, please know that this fundraiser helps make those experiences possible.
🚌 This year, we want every grade level to experience an off-campus field trip. Transportation can be costly, so the money raised will help us keep field-trip expenses affordable for our families.
🏆 Our students will also earn exciting incentives for helping raise funds. Last year, I had an amazing time riding in the limousine with our students, and I cannot wait to see what we accomplish this year!
📊📄 Progress Reports
Our first progress reports will be sent home this Friday. Each progress report will include additional information to help families understand their child’s academic performance:
✏️ Writing results from the previous school year
📈 Beginning-of-Year assessment results
⭐ 2026 STAAR results for current fourth- and fifth-grade students
Please carefully review your child’s progress report, assessment results, grades, and attendance. We encourage you to discuss the results with your child, celebrate areas of growth, and identify goals for continued improvement.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher so that we can work together to support your student’s success.
♟️💃 After-School Clubs and Academic Support
Please review the flyer included in this week’s newsletter. Our after-school clubs and organizations begin on Monday, September 14.

🎒👕 Dress Code Reminder

👗 Skirts, dresses, and shorts should reach at least fingertip length when students’ arms are resting at their sides.
👕 Shirts must fully cover students’ stomachs.
Please monitor your child’s clothing before they leave home each morning. Thank you for helping our young Jaguars follow the school dress code and remain focused on learning.
❤️🖤 Thank You, Jaguar Family! 🖤❤️
Thank you for ensuring that your child attends school every day, arrives on time, follows the dress code, and takes advantage of the wonderful academic and enrichment opportunities available at Jenkins Elementary.
🐾 Let’s have another amazing week in the Jaguar House! 🐾
DESDE EL ESCRITORIO DE LA DIRECTORA
❤️🖤 ¡Hola, Familias Jaguar! 🖤❤️
- ✍️ Escritura a mano
- 🔤 Fonética
- 📖 Combinación de sonidos y decodificación de palabras
- ➕ Suma y resta

Snack Standards
Snacks must be healthy...meaning, fruit (no fruit cups), veggies, or something high in protein. Students will not be allowed to eat sugary snacks, candy, chips, etc. in the classroom any longer. These guidelines only pertain to our classroom snack, not lunch. The snack needs to be something they can eat in about 5 minutes while continuing to work on their assignments. Also, please only allow your child to bring water in their drink containers. We are having several spills, and colored drinks do not clean well.
Birthday Celebrations
All birthday cupcakes and drinks will be conducted during students lunch or recess time. If you want to bring birthday goodies for your child to share with their class, they must be delivered to the front office no later than 10 a.m.

ATTENDANCE IMPACTS STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT!
Last Year, We were at 93.8% in attendance.
We need to be 99% present in attendance.
PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY
Parents,
The state of Texas has a mandatory Attendance Requirement of 90%. Please know that under the Compulsory Attendance Law, all students must be in attendance at least 90% of the time they've been enrolled in a public school. In order to receive credit for a final grade for a class, a student is required to attend class 90 percent of the days a class is offered regardless of whether the student's absences are excused [see FEA] or unexcused.
Failure to attend at least 90% of the time may result in the student being retained in the current grade level.
Students arriving at school after 8:06 am will be counted tardy.
Early release cut-off time is 2:00 p.m., except in cases of emergency.
