Message from Ms. Athanson
Greetings,
Thank you for a great week. Next week we celebrate starts with Hello week. Please see the flyer below for each day's theme.
Middle school parents we need your help with afternoon carline. It is critical to have your students name or designated name clearly visible in the dashboard until your child has entered your car. If you need a hang tag, please reach out to our office and we will send one home with your student.
We are excited for our volleyball season to start. We have our first home game on 9/16 at 4:45. Please see the game schedule and locations on the flyer below. A reminder that you must purchase your ticket in advance, and a link will be available on our website.
In other sports news our Cross-Country team is doing an amazing job. Overall, our girls team came in 1st place and our boys came in 2nd place at Thursday's meet. Come out and support our student athletes at their next meet on 9/26 at Highlander Park in Dunedin.
Our 1st home volleyball game will be this Wednesday at 4:45 (see flyer below for the schedule). A link will be posted to our website and emailed out to purchase tickets for the game. A reminder that we are unable to take cash payments at the door.
Parents of young men, we are continuing to see shorts that do not follow our dress code. Please review the flyer below to help identify what is considered acceptable shorts.
8th grade students interested in attending Osceola High School please see the attachment below for information on how to shadow a student. This is only open to 8th grade students, and it is considered an excused absence.
I wanted to share that we postponed FAST testing on Friday due to intermittent issues with wifi throughout the county. Students will be rescheduled for a date next week. Monday our students in 7th grade accelerated math and pre- algebra will test. School wide we should have the majority of the testing completed with the exception of small group and make up testing. Please look in your students focus accounts under test history to see how they performed.
Please see the updated meeting calendar listed below for a date change. The Grand Prix (worth 3 meeting credits) is now occurring March 5th-7th instead of 2/27-3/1. Thank you to everyone who joined PTA as a member. We look forward to continuing this partnership between school and community.
It is that time of year that we ask families to help complete our media center survey. This survey is designed to gather input and recommendations for materials that you would like to see in our school library media center. It would be great if you can submit your response by Sept. 30, 2026. Thank you!

Applications for NJHS (8th grade only) will be distributed during science classes to those students that met the eligibility requirements. Students will have till the 18th to turn them in (no late applications will be accepted). Students will turn them in to Mrs. Vermillion in the student services office. Part of the application requires a letter of recommendation. This letter should come from someone who has knowledge of the student but cannot be a family member. Additionally, we do not ask teachers to write letters of recommendation.
I know the holidays seem far away, but we are already planning. If your family may need assistance, please reach out to Mrs. Motte or Mrs. Malchodi. Below is a flyer with specific information.
We have a lot of events and activities this month. Please see below for any item that may pertain to your student:

9/21 - PTA @ 5:30 - this meeting will be geared to Elementary School and will help parents understand the different technology tools your student uses each day (Amira, Dreambox, etc)

9/28 - Picture Day
9/28 - Community Partner Night for meeting credit (see flyer under PTA section)

Fundamentals of the carline...
Drop off begins at 7:15. Students may not exit their car until this time. We ask everyone to pull up all the way to avoid gaps in the line and have an efficient and timely process.
Elementary school:
- Elementary students will exit their vehicle in the designated areas
- Students will head to the covered court area and remain supervised until class begins
- If they wish to eat breakfast, there will be students to escort them to the elementary cafe
- If you have a student in elementary and middle, you may choose either line to use and they may walk to their designated areas
Middle school:
- Students may exit their vehicle from the covered walkway by the middle school office all the way to the cafeteria.
- Students will enter the cafeteria and remail in their until the bell rings to release to class at 7:38.
- Students that want breakfast will enter the elementary cafe to eat and then head to the middle school cafe till classes begin.
Pick Up for elementary begins at 1:55 and 2:15 for middle. Parents, we ask that you not arrive prior to 30 minutes of dismissal. Arriving too early blocks the flow of traffic for visitors, deliveries and early dismissal for appointments.
Early release for appointments: Parents, we understand that students need to be released early from time to time for appointments. We ask that if you need to pick up your student, please arrive prior to 30 minutes from dismissal (ex: elementary by 1:25, middle by 1:45). This will allow you to utilize the carline without issue.
