Super Message

June marks the winding down of the school year—a time for reflection, celebration, and looking ahead. As we pause to consider how much our students have grown since late August, we also recognize and honor those who are graduating and preparing to take their next big step. Whether it’s the leap from high school into the wider world, or a move from the nurturing environment of a small elementary school, these transitions are meaningful milestones.

On behalf of the entire WCSU staff, I extend heartfelt congratulations to all of our graduates—and to their families as well. Having recently attended my eldest daughter’s graduate school commencement, I was reminded of the deep pride we feel as we witness our children, and our students, reach new heights.

Let’s celebrate their achievements and the exciting journeys ahead.

Resources for Parents to Promote Summer Learning

As summer approaches, many parents know that their children need a break from the structured environment of a school day. However, many parents also recognize what teachers have known for decades - there’s a documented “learning loss” every summer. One way to minimize that loss is to have children continue to learn in some way. Summer camps, reading, and other activities can have a huge impact. Check out this website for other suggestions/ideas!

Introducing Alma Start

Some of you have heard about Alma, our Student Information System. But for those who haven’t, it’s how we store information, record attendance, and communicate grades. There are also many more features we’re excited to explore. Alma Start is a tool that allows our schools to build digital registration forms and lets parents/guardians directly update their student’s information.

This will reduce the quantity of physical paperwork that’s sent home each year to families and eliminate the hassle of requesting information that we already have. At the beginning of August, parents will be sent these forms through their Alma account to complete in their own time.

But before we jump into the fun stuff, we’d like to test the process with a simple question regarding your family’s intent to return for 2025-2026.

This gives us an opportunity to confirm your access to Alma before the summer starts. It also gives us an idea of who to expect for the next school year. Don’t worry! You’re not locking yourself into any decision at this point. We know you can’t predict the future, but knowing your general intentions helps us get you the information you need to prepare for the school year ahead.

We’re also hoping that using this process will help more families get comfortable with accessing and using Alma. You can follow this link to instructions for logging in and finding the “Intent to Return” form. If you’re having difficulty logging into your Alma account, you can try resetting your password through the Alma login page OR you can email it@windhamcentral.org for your username and a request to reset your password.
