The SHARK Alert

Dear CES families and friends,

Happy May the 4th (Star Wars Day) to all who celebrate! As you know, there is always so much to celebrate at Chatham Elementary and this week is no exception as we celebrate all of the adults at CES. These amazing women and men give their all each and every day to make learning fun and support our SHARKS in countless ways. You might say, the force is strong in our CES staff members!

In addition to celebrating our staff this week, there will be a SHARK Assembly on Wednesday. Please make sure to wear your SHARK gear. On Thursday, some of our very special students will be participating in the MRSD Special Olympics. We wish our athletes lots of luck in their competition!

The month of May moves at light speed, so please make sure to take note of all upcoming events. Next Friday, May 16th is our annual Arts Festival. There will be an all-school concert at 12:45 pm in the gym, followed by a gallery walk throughout the building. We hope you can join us for this special event as we celebrate the creativity and musical skills of our SHARKS. Mark your calendars and prepare for the 4th Annual CES Fun Run on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 sponsored by the fin-tastic CES Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)!

This school-wide event will celebrate fitness and community with our students, staff, families, and community members. The event begins with opening ceremonies at 11:30 am followed by two races for our students. There will be music, food, and a carnival-like atmosphere. The event proceeds will help fund our PTO-sponsored activities and extracurricular activities for the 2025-2026 school year.

• 11:30 Opening Ceremonies
• 11:45 Grades K & 1 Race (1 mile)
• 12:15 Grades 2 - 4 Race (1.5 miles)
• 12:45 Student and Staff Picnic Lunch

Volunteers help make every event GREAT! We are in need of adults to set up the race course, monitor the race course as students are running, assist with the picnic lunch, and help break everything down at the end of the day. Volunteers not only get to be a part of all the festivities, they also get to wear a cool neon vest and take part in our picnic!

The CES Fun Run is a wonderful community event and a fundraiser for our school's PTO. Did you know that the CES PTO funds a number of events throughout the year including, but not limited to: a family skate night, the Halloween Parade, a free book for every child at the Scholastic Book Fair, supplies for after-school clubs, author visits (like Melissa Stewart), the Fourth Grade Promotion festivities, and Teacher Appreciation Week?

The PTO is currently accepting donations and sponsorships for the Fun Run. Great White and Tiger Shark level sponsorships are full, however, we are still accepting:

• The Hammerhead Shark Sponsorship $100-$199 - A small solo banner with your logo on the race course; social media shout out; and Monomoy Thank You Gift
• The Mako Shark Sponsorship $50-$99 - Your name on a group banner on the race course and social media shout out

You can fill out your sponsorship form electronically and upload your company/personal logo by clicking HERE. Checks can be sent via backpack mail or to:

Monomoy recently had a visit from Richard Guerry of the Institute for Responsible Online and Cellphone Communication, thanks to our collaboration with Children's Cove -- he spoke to students in Grade 3-7, raising awareness about digital mindfulness and online safety, and he also held an evening session for parents and caregivers. The PTO meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the Media Center. Parents that would like to attend from home can connect via the Zoom Meeting Link provided below. There are lots of activities coming soon and all sorts of help is needed.
