Principal's Message

What a great start to the year it has been! We have been fortunate to have great weather up until this week. Students have been hard at work academically, but we've also spent some time together as a school for some different events, including the Terry Fox Run, our Back to School Picnic, and most recently for our pep rally for our Cross Country running team!

Thank you to all parents who attended our Parent-Teacher conferences last week. These conferences are a great opportunity to connect with teachers about your child's goals and needs for the school year. If at any time you have questions or concerns about your child's courses or schoolwork, we encourage you to either call the school or email the teacher directly. Another great way to keep up to date on your child's progress is to make sure you are connected through PowerSchool. Don't know how to sign up? Check out the directions on our website.

Junior and senior report cards will be distributed on November 10th. Elementary report cards will be sent out on December 6th.

Our cross-country and volleyball teams have had a great season! Cross-country wrapped this last weekend, and we had four high school students represent us at Provincials. This topped off a great season where our high school team won the Zone Championships. Thank you to all of our coaches for helping with these extra-curricular activities to start this year.

As we move into November and December, we will continue to keep you updated on upcoming events through email and texts. Stay tuned for details about basketball try-outs, and our upcoming community events!

Congrats to our High School Zone Champions! Congrats to our High School Zone Champions!

Terry Fox Run

This year, our students were given an opportunity to hear from Terry Fox's brother, Fred Fox, who presented about Terry's legacy. Students also took time from their day to continue Terry's journey and ran many laps around our school! This year our students raised over $850 for cancer research.

Halloween Activities

On October 31st we will be hosting some different events for the day.

In the morning, students in Elementary and Secondary will have regular classes for the first two periods. Secondary students will follow a modified schedule so they can have time in their morning core courses.

During periods 3 and 4 we will be having our annual pumpkin carving. Our Gr. 1 to 6 students are encouraged to bring pumpkins to carve. Our Gr. 7 to 12 students will be helping them carve those pumpkins!

In the afternoon, students in grades 1-6 will be getting dressed in their costumes at 12:15. If parents need to come and help them get dressed, they are welcome to do so. Our costume parade will start after that in the gym and all are welcome!

During the last period, students in grades 1-6 will be having a dance in the gym. For our secondary students, they are encouraged to bring a pumpkin as well as we will be having a pumpkin painting activity for them, hosted by our Secondary Student Vision group.

Parent Volunteers for Field Trips and Sports Teams

As part of its administrative procedures, Battle River asks that any parent who wants to be a supervisor for a field trip or a sports team becomes an approved volunteer, also known as an Agent of the Board. Parents will need to provide a current criminal record check and a child vulnerable sector check. As these documents can take a bit of time to obtain, we are encouraging parents who think they might be able to supervise trips throughout the year to begin the process of becoming an Agent of the Board early.

If you are interested, please email Mr. MacKenzie and he will provide you with all of the information you need, along with a letter for you to take with you when you go to the police or RCMP to obtain your criminal record.

Camrose Family Resource Centre

Please check out the latest newsletter for the Camrose Family Resource Centre.

Parents can find information for many different resources and programs (both in person and online) within this document. These include Triple P parenting programs, information and sessions about helping students with their mental health, and activities and drop-in opportunities for students and parents.

School Fees

Please don't forget to pay your current school fees for athletic programs, field trips, and other activities, as well as Division Technology fees, by following this link.
