Interim Superintendent Update
The Brookline School Committee is pleased to announce that, at a meeting this morning, they approved a contract with Bella Wong, their choice to serve as Interim Superintendent for the Public Schools of Brookline during the 2025-2026 school year.
In making their choice of Ms. Wong, members noted:
The Public Schools of Brookline are in an important transition stage. Current and incoming leadership must establish a strong foundation based on open dialogue, active collaboration, and a full understanding of the current reality our schools face – in terms of fiscal health and the shifting needs of our students.
We have the utmost confidence that Bella Wong is the right person for this job and has the skills and experience to lead the district during this time.
The upcoming school year is integral in our efforts to move our community and district forward. We must use every tool at our disposal to ensure the interim superintendent – and our schools - are able to succeed at this critical juncture.
During her interview, Ms. Wong answered a wide range of questions, describing how she would fill leadership vacancies, address academic and opportunity gaps, approach issues of academic rigor, address fiscal challenges, recruit and retain educators of color, and negotiate collective bargaining agreements. Members commented on her extensive school leadership experience, including as Interim Superintendent in Natick, her understanding of PSB’s strengths and challenges, her proven record of successfully communicating with stakeholders, and her work as a mentor in the New Superintendent Induction Program. References for Ms. Wong noted her excellent financial skills and collaborative decision-making, and described her as diplomatic, approachable, and an excellent listener. Ms. Wong is a proud graduate of Runkle School and Brookline High School; her resume is available here.
