Happy National Assistant Principals Week!

National Assistant Principals Week is a celebration of the unsung heroes in our education system. These dedicated folks work tirelessly to bolster teachers, motivate students, support their principal, create a positive learning community, and face the many unpredictable challenges that land on their desk. Assistant Principals play a crucial role and we wanted to recognize them for their hard work and commitment to our school. Left to Right: Eric Gustafson, Linda Hubbard, Dr. Cara Maronek, Ailey Ruger.

Thank you Mr. Gustafson, Mrs. Hubbard, Dr. Maronek, and Ms. Ruger-Your impact on the lives of our students, staff, and families will never be forgotten!

Please join us in celebrating these incredible school leaders!

Monarch has the best students!

2023 Boettcher Scholarship Recipient

Congratulations to Alina Miranda for being named a Boettcher Scholarship winner. The Boettcher Scholarship is a $20,000/year scholarship to any Colorado University or College. Applicants are selected based on superior scholastic ability and intellectual curiosity, evidence of leadership and involvement, service to community and school and outstanding character.

2023 PRESIDENT'S SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

Congratulations to Remelia Hubbard for being awarded a Pacific Lutheran University President's Scholarship, one of the top academic and leadership scholarships offered by PLU. Over 400 qualified applicants applied for our top scholarships this year, of which 120 President’s Scholars were selected. These scholars were invited to campus in February to interview with PLU faculty for the next tiers of scholarships —the Harstad Founder’s Scholarship and the Regents’ Scholarship. Only ten Harstad Founder’s Scholars and five Regents’ Scholars were chosen.

Remelia was selected based on academic achievement, co-curricular involvement, service and leadership, as well as potential to effect positive change and leadership in both the academic and co-curricular life of our university. The prestigious President's Scholarship is worth $34,000 per year. This year’s President’s, Harstad and Regents’ Scholars have a cumulative average weighted GPA of 4.09.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

We are looking for volunteers to help organize and coordinate Teacher Appreciation Week for our wonderful staff. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our Office Manager, Michelle Coates (michelle.t.coates@bvsd.org).

SENIOR PARADE

The senior parade was started in 2020 and is now becoming a tradition that the students and community look forward to! It is organized by parents, not affiliated with the school, although we do our best to schedule it around activities with the AD dept. We need at least a dozen parents to assist with this over the next four weeks to make it successful. Senior parents do NOT assist on the day of the parade so that they can enjoy it with their kids, so we need parents from all grades to help out!

We will be holding our first meeting on Tuesday, April 11th at 7pm. If you are interested, please contact either Tara Carlson (tara.c.carlson@gmail.com) or Helene Meyer (helenekmeyer@gmail.com) for more information

SENIOR BBQ COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS

We are in need of 4-5 parent volunteers to form the Senior BBQ 2023 Committee. The Senior BBQ happens on May 19th at 12 PM after seniors finish their graduation rehearsal and Senior Gauntlet celebration. The Senior BBQ Committee would meet and plan the set-up (tables/grills), food/money donations, and coordinate parent volunteers to help run the day-of events. Please email Darci Guanella dguanella@gmail.com if you would like to be on the committee.

PROM

We are also looking for volunteers to set up and provide water bottles and soda the week prior to the event. If you are interested in volunteering, please use the link to our Sign Up Genius.

MONARCH AFTER PROM EVENT

Monarch parents are organizing the After Prom following Prom on April 29 from 11:30p to 2:30a. To hold a successful event for more than 600 students, we need volunteers and donations. We are also looking for volunteers to set up and provide water bottles and soda the week prior to the event.

Monarch After Prom is 100% funded by parent and community donations. Consider donating through our Amazon Wish List or drop off a gift card of any amount. We also borrow items like patio furniture that we’ll pick up and return to you. See all the ways you can help us create a safe and fun-filled events for our students.

I recently found myself at a women’s craft club meeting painting tiles across a table from a super nice woman – and she happened to be a CU Boulder admissions officer. Given that Monarch students apply to CU Boulder way more than any other college, I figured this would be an important person to talk to. Over break, I had the great privilege of sitting down with her and asking about things like whether CU Boulder values dual enrollment credit on par with AP credit, whether CU Boulder is more impressed with transcripts from CU Denver versus Front Range Community College, etc. It was a fascinating conversation. Click here to read the full interview.

And don’t forget to sign up for free college credit this summer!

Let me know what questions you have. Thanks!
