Deer Hill News • September 18, 2026
Thank you so much for joining us at last night's Open House. We love showcasing our school and all of the great things to come this year! While our newsletters are always a great resource for information, the beginning of the year has extra helpings of need to knows. Thank you for taking the time to scan our newsletters each week. Have a great weekend! -- Alex
Deer Hill Need to Knows
Instruments on the Bus: Did you know that some of our band instruments aren't much smaller than a 3rd grader??? With our buses already full to the top, this can make for a crowded ride to and from school. It's always an option to deliver and/or pick up your instrument from the front foyer before and after school. Our entry doors open at 7am and are locked at 5pm. Thanks for any help you can offer on your child's band day!

The School Council meets on the 3rd Thursday of selected months at 4:00 in the Deer Hill library. Dates will be noted in our newsletter, and agendas are posted on the town website. All are welcome. Thank you to the PSO for helping establish this year's slate of members!
Spring MCAS 2027: It may seem early to be thinking of MCAS, but attendance is critical on our assessment days. Please note these dates on your calendar and avoid scheduling appointments, travel, or other planned absences on these days. Thank you!
Homework at Deer Hill Position Paper: Last year all stakeholders (staff, students, families) at Deer Hill engaged in a process to evaluate our homework practices and establish both a thoughtful philosophy and clear expectations moving forward. Here is the Homework at Deer Hill position paper that summarizes that work. Key components around homework expectations can also be found in the Deer Hill Family Handbook. Please note that aside from nightly reading and maybe a fun get-to-know-you activity or two, homework will begin across all grade levels 3-5 the week of September 28th.
Deer Hill Happenings
This Is Our House: Deer Hill continues to build a community of love, inclusion and trust, and we're looking forward to our joint assembly with Osgood next week. Over the first days of school, every student and staff member illustrated what LIT means to them, and Mrs. Augustine, a multi-talented Deer Hill ESP, created this beautiful bulletin board display with help from our Belonging Steering Committee.
