Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to share that Mount Vernon Middle School’s 3rd Annual Academic Showcase will take place on Thursday, March 12, from 5:00–7:00 PM. This special evening is designed to highlight the learning, growth, and achievements of our students throughout the school year—both as individuals and as part of our school community.

The Academic Showcase will follow a scavenger hunt format, similar to last year. Families will be invited to travel to different locations throughout the building to see student work, projects, and activities. Students will visit whole-school areas and their own team’s classrooms as they participate in the showcase experience.

To make the evening even more enjoyable, food trucks will be on site, giving families the option to grab dinner before or during the event.

We are looking forward to welcoming our families and community members for a fun and engaging night that truly reflects the spirit of Mount Vernon Middle School. More details will be shared as the date approaches, but we encourage you to mark your calendar now and plan to attend.

Thank you for your continued support, and we hope to see you on March 12!

Have a wonderful Valentines Day!

Darin

Initiative to Motivate Students for the Ohio State Tests (OST) Initiative to Motivate Students for the Ohio State Tests (OST)

We are excited to share that we are continuing our initiative aimed at motivating students for the Ohio State Tests (OST). We are offering a special reward: a trip to Kings Island or Cedar Point for students who meet specific criteria. Our goal is to encourage students to either pass the tests or show significant academic growth. We are planning to schedule the trip for our students during the first full week of summer break, June 2nd - 6th. The date that we are shooting for is June 2nd, but we must wait for confirmation from the park of choice once they release their 2026 operating calendar.

Here’s how the program works:

Our Focus: Motivating students to either pass or improve on their Ohio State Tests.

Eligibility Criteria for Students:

  • Pass all OSTs for their grade level = automatic eligibility for the trip.
  • If a student doesn’t pass one or more tests, they can still attend by meeting the following additional criteria:
    • Show at least 3+ points of growth in the tests they did not pass.
    • Have no more than 10 full absences for the year.
    • No major discipline referrals in the second semester.

Grade-Level Breakdown:

  • 6th & 7th Grades:
    • Pass ELA and math tests = eligible.
    • Don’t pass one = meet 2 additional criteria.
    • Don’t pass both = meet all 3 additional criteria.
  • 8th Grade:
    • Pass ELA, math, and science tests = eligible.
    • Don’t pass one = meet 1 additional criterion.
    • Don’t pass two = meet 2 additional criteria.
    • Don’t pass any = meet all 3 additional criteria.

How the Trip is Funded:

The Cookie Dough Fundraiser is the primary method of covering the expense of the trip. Students who earn the trip may be asked to contribute up to $20, and financial assistance is available upon request.

How You Can Help:

  • Motivate your student by reinforcing the importance of showing what they know and can do on the Ohio State Tests.

Your support is vital to the success of this initiative. Together, we can encourage our students to excel in their Ohio State Tests and make this trip a rewarding and memorable experience!

The Jacket Closet The Jacket Closet

Did you know MVMS has a Jacket Closet? It’s a discrete, caring space where students can pick up the things they need—no questions asked.

What’s inside the Jacket Closet?

  • Clothing such as shirts, shorts, pants, and winter coats and hats

  • Shoes

  • Hygiene products

  • School supplies, including paper, pens, pencils, and calculators

  • Snacks

The Jacket Closet is all about making sure our students are comfortable, confident, and ready to learn every day. If your child could use something from the Jacket Closet, all they need to do is reach out to a trusted staff member.

We are proud to have this resource in place and are thankful for the generosity of those who help keep it stocked. Together, we can make sure all of our students have what they need to thrive.
