The Tiger Times
November 2026

π¦ From the Principal π
Hello Mohawk Families,
As November begins, itβs a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the many things we are grateful for. At Mohawk, we are especially thankful for our amazing students who bring curiosity and enthusiasm to school each day, our dedicated staff who work tirelessly to support and inspire children, and our families whose partnership helps make our school community so strong.
This season reminds us of the importance of gratitude, kindness, and connection. Simple acts, such as helping a friend, showing respect, or offering a helping hand, can have a lasting impact. We will continue encouraging our students to demonstrate these values each day, both at school and at home.
Tuesday, November 3 is Election Day and a professional learning day for staff, so there will be no school for students. While community members vote on the School Safety and Improvement Bond, our teachers will be engaged in meaningful professional development. Staff will be analyzing Bridges Math Assessment data and exploring School AI tools to enhance instruction and support student learning. We are proud of our teachersβ ongoing commitment to professional growth and excellence in education.
November is also filled with exciting opportunities for our students and families, including the Student Council Food Drive, Reading Carnival, Picture Retakes, Canvas & Cookies, and many other special events throughout the month.
Thank you for your continued support, involvement, and partnership. Together, we make Mohawk a wonderful place to learn and grow. We wish you and your family a November filled with gratitude, joy, and meaningful time together.
With gratitude,
Ms. Andrea Verellen, Ed.S.
Principal, Mohawk Elementary

πΎ MOHAWK POLICIES π
Leave Toys at Home
There has been an increase in students bringing small toys, fidgets and other personal items to school. These items interfere with instruction because students are distracted and donβt complete classwork. Additionally, they cause conflicts among students when they are lost, traded or damaged.
To support a focused learning environment and maximize instructional time, we ask families check their student's backpack regularly and keep non-school-related items at home.
Thank you for your cooperation and support!
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
PBIS
What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Itβs a school-wide approach we use to help students learn and practice positive behaviors. Just like we teach reading and math, PBIS helps us teach expectations for how to be safe, kind, and responsible at school. Using three fingers, we remind students to βShow Your Stripes.β This simple gesture signals that itβs time to be safe, kind, and responsible in all parts of the school.
With PBIS, we:
- Clearly teach behavior expectations in all areas of the school
- Recognize and celebrate positive behavior
- Support students who need extra help
- Create a consistent, predictable, and positive school environment
The goal of PBIS is to help every student succeedβacademically, socially, and emotionallyβby making school a safe and encouraging place to learn!

Multilingual Learner Awards
Congratulations to our multilingual learners (MLL) here at Mohawk Elementary! We had the highest number of students in the district to pass the WIDA assessment last year. The WIDA test shows how our MLL students are growing in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking in English while they also continue to build on the language they speak at home! Congratulations to our hardworking students for showing such great progress! A special thanks to Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Wreglesworth for their dedication to our students!
