Principal's Message
Welcome to Q2!
I cannot wait to see what this last part of 2025 brings for our Warrior Family! Just a few new things and reminders below.
First off, I would like to thank everyone that came out to the fifth annual Vision, Data and iReady Information Night on Thursday. Thank you to PTO for providing pizza dinner and thank you to all of our faculty and staff for being here and supporting our students daily! All Q1 report cards, iReady reports and SC Ready reports will go home with those students that did not attend last night. We would love to hear your feedback so please reach out to us anytime! Please see the video from Mrs. Haynes discussing the Vision of WMS and the goals we are working on day in and day out. WMS 25/25 Vision and State of the School Video
High Impact Tutoring- We have rearranged the morning tutoring schedule to add one more math day a week with two teachers! Thank you to our teachers that work with our students each morning during this tutoring time! There will be morning sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for Math and Tuesday and Thursday for ELA. The morning sessions will be held from 7:45 am-8:23 am in the Celebration Room on campus. There will be a teacher in the tutoring session to help with on grade level standards and/or school work and tests. You must arrive on time and come through the cafeteria doors.
WMS Zero Policy- If at any time a student is absent and misses an assignment or test, a zero will be entered in the gradebook for those items. The zero will act as a placeholder for the grade until the assignments are made up. This helps the student and parent as a reminder to get the grade updated by completing the missing work. It also avoids providing a false grade with holes in the gradebook. The student will be given three academic days to make up missing work when absent. Students should initiate the discussion with the teacher upon return about make-ups.
Retake Policy- In order to improve student learning and increase mastery of state standards, students will have the opportunity to retake major summative assessments by correcting errors on the attempted original test. The retake assessment can be determined by the teacher at their discretion. The retake policy does not apply to projects or formal writing assessments that include multiple checkpoints and/or rubrics. All students who score below 70% will be allowed to complete test corrections, and the highest possible score a student can receive from a retake is 70%. Retakes must be completed within five instructional days after the original test took place*.
*Each Wednesday, the school will provide an opportunity for students to schedule test retakes during the Warrior Time/lunch blocks as a school-designated time and location. Teachers may also choose to have students complete test retakes during the academic block (so long as the retake is completed within the five days following the original assessment).
School-wide Field Trips- On October 21 and 22, 2025 our school will be taking school-wide field trips. Not all students will attend these trips. Absences will count as the musical is an educational field trip, and core subject classes will meet on the You Are Awesome Q1 Celebration bowling field trip day. Please see the information letter to refresh your memory of the trips and the requirements to attend. The list of those eligible for the You Are Awesome Party Q1 Bowling trip was shared with students today. On the day your child attends the musical, students will need to bring a bag lunch where all items can be thrown away. No personal lunch boxes or water bottles that cannot be thrown away will be allowed. On the day your child attends the bowling Q1 You Are Awesome Party, concessions will be open for purchase, but students will still receive lunch when we return to school. A more detailed email will come out on Sunday night from Mrs. Haynes. Information Letter for October 2025
Red Ribbon Week- We have Red Ribbon Week coming up soon and would like to see all of our Warriors dress up to enjoy the day and support being drug free! Sergeant Lopez will give his drug prevention presentation on Friday, October 24, 2025 during Warrior Time so that we can continue to encourage our students to remain drug free and empower them with knowledge about drug paraphernalia. A copy of that presentation will be shared with you prior to that day.
Veteran’s Day Parade at WMS- Our first Veteran’s Day Parade is coming up and we want you to participate! We would like for any relative or close family friend that has served in the military services to come and be recognized with your WMS Warrior during an inside parade on November 11, 2025. This letter will come home with each student after break but it is linked here if you would like to fill this out and return to the front office. We are so excited to honor our Veterans!
