News & Notes from Mrs. Rodriguez
Dear Kindergarten Center Families,
It was wonderful to see so many kindergarten families at the popsicle event this week—excitement for the new school year is definitely in the air! Please take a moment to review the notes below about kindergarten screening, Meet the Teacher, and arrival and dismissal procedures at the Kindergarten Center. Early next week I will resend information about ordering school lunch and ways to support the Kindergarten Center PTA!
I cannot wait to welcome you and your children to the Kindergarten Center next week!
Warmly,
Sarah Rodriguez
Principal, D41 Kindergarten Center
Kindergarten Screenings
Please plan to arrive at the Kindergarten Center a few minutes before your child’s scheduled screening time and enter through the main entrance. Parking is available in the K Center lot, and during special events, families may also park along the entire car line.
Upon arrival, a staff member will check you in and guide you to the parent waiting area, while your child is escorted to a classroom or teaching space for the screening. While you wait, you will be asked to complete a transportation form to help staff organize arrival and dismissal plans for the school year. The entire process should take 30 minutes.
If you have a question regarding your screening time, please contact Lesly Yanez @ lyanez@d41.org.
Teacher Assignments

Meet the Teacher
Join us at the Kindergarten Center on Friday, August 29th, from 1:00–3:00 p.m.
To help reduce congestion inside the building:
Families with last names A–L are encouraged to attend from 1:00–1:45 p.m.
Families with last names M–Z are encouraged to attend from 2:00–2:45 p.m.
If the suggested time doesn’t work for your family, you are welcome to attend at the time that is most convenient. We know older siblings will be in school, but younger siblings are more than welcome to join! Parking is available in the K Center parking lot. During special events, parking along the entire car line will be permitted.
During Meet the Teacher, you and your Kindergartener can:
Drop off medications with the nurse
Submit any outstanding paperwork to the school office
Bring school supplies (if ordered through the PTA, supplies will already be in your child’s classroom)
Explore the new building and see the amazing learning spaces
Find the location where your classroom will line up
Cast your vote for the Kindergarten Center Koala’s name
Arrival and Pick-up Procedures
We are so excited to welcome your child to the Kindergarten Center! As we prepare for the first day, we want to share a few helpful guidelines for arrival and dismissal. Together, we can make the start to this special year smooth and fun for your child.
This year, each kindergarten teacher will be assigned a color. Your child will receive a backpack tag with their teacher’s color and a picture indicating whether they are a walker, car, or bus rider.
When students arrive—by bus, carline, or walking—they will go to their designated classroom line(locations shown above). At Meet the Teacher, cones with teacher names and photos will be placed outside to help families get familiar with the locations.
Please inform your child’s classroom teacher of your family’s transportation plans. Let them know if your child will:
Ride the bus
Attend Childtime, Adventure Time, or another before/after program
Be picked up in the carline
Walk (Churchill families)
If your pick-up plans change during the day, email both the classroom teacher and Ms. Yanez in the office at lyanez@d41.org.
Carline Procedures:
The outermost driveway off Bloomingdale Road is the designated carline.
Students must exit and enter vehicles only in the drop-off/pick-up zone directly in front of the Main Entrance.
For safety, children must use the back passenger-side door to exit/enter the vehicle.
Staff will be present to assist during arrival and dismissal.
Do not allow your child to exit the vehicle in any other area, other than the safe drop zone.
If you have children in 1st–5th grade at another building and your Kindergarten drop-off or pick-up takes longer than expected, please know that supervision will be provided at the elementary building until you arrive.
Carline Procedures for Churchill Families:
Families dropping off a Kindergarten Center student and also a Churchill School student are welcome to drop off on the Kindergarten Center side of our campus.
1st–5th grade students will exit the car and walk along the west side of the Kindergarten Center, following the sidewalk to the Churchill main entrance. Staff will be present to supervise in front of Churchill. Families may begin dropping students off in the carline starting at 8:00 a.m.
Bus Zone:
The inner drive is for buses only. Parents may not drop off or pick up students in this area.
Parking in the school lot is not permitted during arrival and dismissal times.
Carline Pick-Up Signs:
Families using the carline must display a pick-up sign in the passenger-side visor or window.
Pick-up signs will be distributed at screenings and Meet the Teacher, and are also available in the office.
Please use a black permanent marker to write your child’s name and teacher in large, bold letters so it is clearly visible to staff.
Walkers
Churchill families who walk may use the sidewalks at Churchill’s main entrance and then continue on the connecting sidewalk between the two buildings on the west side. Kindergarten staff will be stationed at the side door to supervise walkers.
Adventure Time
Kindergarten students attending Adventure Time will use Door 20 (Churchill’s Main Gym entrance), located in the circle drive on the east side of campus, for both drop-off and pick-up. Adventure Time for Kindergarten students will take place in the Kindergarten Center, with staff escorting students to the space. If a student has older siblings at Churchill, they may attend Adventure Time with their siblings and will be escorted to the Kindergarten Center when the first bell rings.
Bus Route Information
