CAVALIER Chronicle

We need your feedback!
This year, our district has begun implementing Capturing Kids' Hearts in all of our schools. We need your help to see how we are doing so far. Please use the link below to complete a survey. We are gathering data from all groups (staff, students, families) so that we know what areas we need to work on next semester.
Thank you in advance for your help with this!
It's a Great Week to be a Cavalier!
Happy Sunday Cavalier Families!
We are ready to start the final week of the semester! Time is flying by for sure!
Impact Aid forms went home to many families this past Thursday. We need all of those forms back by Tuesday (12/17) at the latest. If your student received one, please send it back to school with them tomorrow. Students are earning Hero points for bringing them back and the first 3 classes to 100% will get pizza on Friday.
This week, students will take benchmark tests and will have an alternate bell schedule each day.
Lunch times are as follows:
6th grade: 12:04-12:38
7th grade: 12:47-1:21
8th grade: 1:30-2:04
On Friday (12/20), classes will have an end of semester party at the end of the day. 2nd period teachers are organizing this event and some of them may allow students to bring snacks and goodies for the party. If they bring something, it must be store-bought and come in an unopened package.
As a reminder, students are not permitted to remain on campus after school unless they are in tutoring or the Boys and Girls Club. Students should be picked up promptly at 3:30PM each day. We do not have staff to supervise students after 3:45PM. Boys and Girls Club is free--all you have to do is sign your student up!
We are looking forward to a Cav-tastic week with your students!

Counselors' Corner
Capturing Kid's Hearts
This Month's CKH Character Trait: Responsibility - Own your thoughts, words, and actions.
Monday: A body of men holding themselves accountable to nobody ought not to be trusted by anybody.
Tuesday: We have not passed that subtle line between childhood and adulthood until we have stopped saying, “it got lost” and say, “I lost it”.
Wednesday: Our greatness has always come from people who expect nothing and take nothing for granted. This holds true for people who work hard for what they have, then reach back and help others after them.
Thursday: Make it a point to do something every day that you don’t want to do. This is the golden rule for acquiring the habit of doing your duty without pain.
Friday: It is wrong and immoral to seek to escape the consequences of one’s acts.

Counseling Lunch Groups
The Counseling Office will be doing small group counseling sessions during every grade level lunch on Wednesdays in Room 211. If you would like to your child to participate, please encourage them to get a permission slip from the counseling office or print & fill out the slip below. Our primary focus is effective communication & conflict resolution. For the sessions to be effective, the groups are kept to a maximum of 15 students. Drop-Off & Pick-Up Map for Cars and Buses
Please notice the drop off and pick up areas for cars at CPMS. For the safety of our students, please do not drop off in the bus loop.
Parents/Guardians should only be driving in the yellow area indicated on the map.
The red area is for buses only. Parents who enter the red area are putting students and staff at risk as there is limited visibility when buses are present.
We appreciate your support in enforcing the KISD Student Code of Conduct!
Student Code of Conduct cards were sent home this past week. Please make sure that you have read over the SCOC so that you know the expectations for behavior.
Student Code of Conduct Updates
Electronic Devices and Pouches – Secondary students will maintain their phone, and all communication devices, in a locked pouch during the school day.
E-cigarettes/Cigarettes
1st Offense Violation:
Students will be assigned one day of ISS and one day of Saturday School. Secondary Students will attend at their home campuses (the curriculum will be provided for all students who attend for cigarette/e-cigarette violations).

2nd Offense Violation:
A due process hearing will be held with a recommendation for DAEP placement for 20 days.
Consequences for School Bus Violations:
For school bus safety violations, and for serious violations, as defined in this document, that happen on the bus, the 3rd bus offense shall invoke at least a temporary removal (possibly a permanent removal), and the 4th offense will invoke a bus suspension for the rest of the school year. For students attending a DAEP, the 2nd bus offense will result in permanent bus suspension for the time the student is placed in DAEP; any flagrant bus offense prior to the 2nd violation may result in immediate bus suspension. Students who fight on the bus will be suspended for three days. If after a thorough investigation, fighting is confirmed, then the students involved will be removed from the bus for 30 school days. Under severe circumstances the Director for Transportation Services reserves the right to implement temporary or permanent bus suspension at a date earlier than prescribed by this regulation.
