zoom_out_map

The United States Space Force (USSF), established on December 20, 2019, is the newest branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. It was created to protect and defend American interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint forces. The USSF operates under the Department of the Air Force, similar to how the Marine Corps operates under the Department of the Navy. Its mission includes space operations such as satellite communications, missile warning systems, and space domain awareness. The USSF also focuses on developing advanced space technologies and ensuring the security of U.S. space assets against potential threats from other nations. With its motto "Semper Supra" (Always Above), the Space Force plays a crucial role in maintaining the United States' strategic advantage in space.

Notable U.S. Space Force Service Members

  • Colonel Michael S. Hopkins is a U.S. Space Force officer and former NASA astronaut. He transferred to the Space Force while aboard the International Space Station in 2020. Hopkins has participated in multiple space missions, including SpaceX Crew-1, and has completed five spacewalks.
  • General John W. "Jay" Raymond was the first Chief of Space Operations for the U.S. Space Force. He played a key role in establishing the Space Force and shaping its mission.
  • Heather Pringle played a significant role in supporting the U.S. Space Force during her tenure as Commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory. In this position, she led a $3 billion technology enterprise, providing mission-critical support to both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force.
