Dear Mustang families,

As we welcome the month of March, it’s hard to believe how quickly this school year is moving. Spring is right around the corner, and we are officially in the “stretch run” of the school year. This is an important time for our students. The habits, focus, and effort they demonstrate over the next few months will make a significant impact on their academic growth and overall success.

This week’s message focuses on helping students stay motivated, organized, and goal-oriented as we head into the final quarter of the year. March is the perfect time to revisit personal and academic goals. I encourage you to sit down with your child and ask:

  • What is one goal you still want to accomplish before the end of the school year?

  • What habit will help you reach that goal?

  • What might distract you, and how can you plan ahead to stay focused?

Through Leader in Me, students are learning to Begin with the End in Mind (Habit 2) and Put First Things First (Habit 3). At home, you can support these habits by helping your child create a simple weekly plan. This might include setting aside time for homework before screen time, organizing materials for upcoming tests, or breaking large projects into smaller, manageable steps. These small actions build responsibility and confidence.

As testing season approaches, consistency and encouragement at home are incredibly important. A regular bedtime, a healthy breakfast, and positive conversations about effort and growth all make a difference. Remind your child that growth matters more than perfection. We want them to strive for excellence while understanding that mistakes are part of learning.

March can also bring distractions—spring activities, schedule changes, and simply the excitement that comes with this time of year. Now more than ever, we must work together to help students stay focused on what matters most. When school and home reinforce the same expectations—goal setting, responsibility, and perseverance—students thrive.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Let’s finish strong together and help our students lead themselves to success during this final stretch of the school year!

Dear Marshall Families,

I want to take a moment to celebrate another inspiring figure for Black History Month, Frederick Douglass. His dedication to learning, advocacy, and speaking out for justice connects beautifully to Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind. Douglass set clear goals for himself and worked tirelessly to achieve them, reminding our students that planning and perseverance lead to meaningful impact.

We also want to give a huge thank you to our 4th and 5th grade teachers and students for their incredible work on our Black History Wax Museum on Thursday. Your creativity, preparation, and hard work brought history to life and allowed us to relearn, appreciate, and celebrate in a fun, interactive way.

A friendly reminder as we spring into March; school begins promptly at 8:10 AM each day. Arriving on time ensures students are ready to start the day focused and prepared for learning.

We’re still celebrating Ms. Martinez and all that makes her our Teacher of the Year. Thank you for your dedication and heart for our Marshall Leaders!

Thank you for your continued partnership and support in helping our students grow as leaders and learners.

Pony up,

From Our Instructional Coach From Our Instructional Coach

Dear Families,

As March brings longer days and new growth, it’s a wonderful time to refresh learning routines at home. As an instructional coach, I’ve been working with teachers on strategies that help students build strong thinking habits, and you can reinforce these in simple ways. Encourage your child to explain their thinking when solving a problem by asking, “How did you figure that out?” or “Can you show me another way?” Create a consistent homework routine with a quiet space and a set time each day to build focus and independence. Reading together—even for just 15 minutes—helps strengthen vocabulary and comprehension, especially when you pause to discuss characters, predictions, and connections. Just like the season, steady care and encouragement help skills blossom. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child grow this spring! 🌷🌱

Warm regards,
Your Instructional Coach

Dear Families,

Habit 5 of The Leader in Me and The 7 Habits of Happy Kids teaches us to “Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood.” This means we listen with our ears, eyes, and hearts before we speak. At school and at home, students can practice Habit 5 by letting others finish their thoughts, asking questions to better understand, and showing empathy for how someone else may be feeling. When families model strong listening skills and respectful conversations, children learn how powerful it is to truly understand one another. Together, we can build stronger friendships and stronger families by making listening a priority!

We also hope you will join us for the 15th Annual GPISD Experience on Saturday, March 7th! This exciting event will feature carnival games, amazing student performances, face painting, a petting zoo, and so much more. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our students and connect as a community. We can’t wait to see you there for a day full of fun and memories!

-Ms. Sutton

We are so proud of our leaders at Marshall! As we get closer to state testing, our recent data shows we can continue to strengthen math fact fluency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Strong math facts build confidence and help students succeed in all areas of math.

To support this, we are launching the Marshall Math Mania Challenge to help students in 2nd-5th grade grow, improve their personal best, and build confidence through practice.

Details:
When: Every Tuesday and Thursday beginning March 10th
Where: Your child’s homeroom class
What: Timed Math Facts Challenge

Students will check their own work and track their own progress so they can see their growth over time. We are excited to see our students rise to the challenge! Thank you for partnering with us as we continue helping our leaders do their very best.
