Hi Families,

We are excited to announce that our school is officially participating in the NexTrex Recycling Program! We’re on a mission to recycle everyday "soft plastics" and turn them into something wonderful for our school, and we need your help to get there.

How it Works

Our goal is to collect 250 lbs of clean, dry, soft plastics. Once we hit that first milestone, our school earns a special gift! But we aren’t stopping there—for every 250 lbs we collect, we earn an entry into a drawing to win a high-quality Trex bench for our courtyard.

What to Send In

Please ensure all items are clean, dry, and free of food residue. We are looking for:

• Grocery bags and produce bags

• Bread bags and dry cleaning bags

• Case overwrap (the plastic around water bottles or paper towels)

• Ziploc/food storage bags

• Bubble wrap and plastic shipping envelopes (remove paper labels if possible)

Where to Drop Off

Starting this week, students can drop off their plastics in Room 121 until we receive the official NexTrex bins in 2-3 weeks.

This is a wonderful way for our students to see firsthand how recycling can make a tangible difference in our own community. Let’s see how many benches we can win!

Byrd Elementary School’s Career Day will be on Friday April 17th, 2026 from 8:00am-10:30am! We are looking for volunteers to come and talk about their career with our students in brief presentations. You could bring in props, present outside if you have a special vehicle or equipment to share, create a slideshow to display your work, etc…! The school clinics are currently seeking substitute nurses to support student health services across the division. This is a great opportunity for qualified nurses who are interested in flexible schedules and working in a school setting.

Stronger Together: GCPS Wellness Night Fun Run/Walk!

We are excited to invite you to join us for the upcoming GCPS Wellness Night – Stronger Together Fun Run/Walk! This fun-filled evening will take place on Wednesday, April 8th from 5:00–7:00 PM (gates open at 5:00 PM, run/walk begins at 5:30 PM) at the Goochland High School Football Stadium.

This event is designed to promote health and wellness among our students, families, and staff across Goochland County Public Schools. There will be delicious food trucks, games, bouncy houses, door prizes, and an opportunity to participate in a fun run/walk featuring colorful chalk along the course.

Whether you’re ready to run, walk, play, or simply connect with others in our community, there will be something for everyone.

We’re looking forward to seeing our GCPS community and continuing the work we do together.

Bulldog Basketball Camp Details:

Dates: June 1st - 3rd

Ages: 6-15

Grades: Rising 1st-9th graders

Time: 8 AM - 12 PM

Cost: $100

Max: 60 Campers

Please notify the office about transportation changes via email at beseagles@glnd.k12.va.us. If you have daily transportation needs, please make sure you provide changes at the beginning of each week for the entire week. Please make sure you have all transportation changes in prior to 1:00 PM, this allows staff time to communicate all necessary changes and avoids confusion when a call is not received. We appreciate your support.

Parents who wish to chaperone a field trip or volunteer regularly in our school must submit to a background check every 2 years using the BIB portal. The process is completely electronic. If you are having problems with the system, contact Demetra Harris at dharris@glnd.k12.va.us.
