May Prayer for the Virtue of Acceptance

Loving God,

Thank you for the beautiful month of May,

a time when new life grows

and we are reminded of Your deep love for each of us.

Help us to see ourselves and others as You see us:

created in Your image,

unique, special, and loved.

Teach us the virtue of acceptance.

Help us to welcome everyone with kindness,

to include others in our games and learning,

and to show respect in our words and actions.

When someone is different from us,

help us to listen with open hearts,

to care for one another like a family,

and to choose compassion and understanding.

Guide us to be builders of peace in our school,

responsible and caring citizens in our community,

and faithful followers of Jesus in all we do.

May Mary, our gentle mother,

teach us to say “yes” to love,

to trust in God’s plan,

and to walk together in hope and joy.

We ask this through Jesus,

who welcomes everyone with open arms.

Amen.

May Virtue: Acceptance

If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. (1 Cor.12:26-27)

God wants us to make friends with everyone no matter how different they may look or act.

Acceptance is the ability to respect the dignity and rights of all persons, even those whose beliefs and behaviours differ from our own. Everyone should strive to love and respect their neighbour, as they love and respect themselves.

From the perspective of the Catholic Graduate Expectations, an accepting person...

  • Finds meaning, dignity fulfillment and vocation in work which contributes to the common good

  • Witnesses Catholic social teaching by promoting equality, democracy, and solidarity for a just, peaceful and compassionate society

  • Respects and affirms the diversity and interdependence of the world’s peoples and cultures

  • Respects and understands the history, cultural heritage and pluralism of today’s contemporary society

School‑Wide Kiss & Ride and Parking Safety Reminders

As a school community, the safety of our students must always come first. Recently, we have observed an increase in unsafe parking lot practices during both morning drop‑off and afternoon pick‑up. Although many families follow the procedures consistently—thank you—there are still situations occurring that put children and others at risk.

To ensure the safety of every student, please review and follow the expectations below:

Parking Lot & Kiss & Ride Reminders

  • Do not park along the south side of the church at any time. This area is not designated for parking or stopping and parking is meant for church personnel and patrons. Cars parking or stopping in this area force children to cross active drive-thru lanes, creating extremely unsafe condition including blocking the passage of school buses for drop-off and/or pick-up of bus students.
  • Kiss & Ride is for quick drop‑offs/pick-ups only. Drivers must remain in their vehicles and move forward promptly. Your child should be ready to exit the vehicle when you arrive at the Kiss & Ride area.
  • Use designated parking spots on the NORTH side of the church only: From here you can safely walk your child to the school or pick them up at dismissal.
  • Never stop to drop off children in drive‑through lanes that are parallel to the south side of the church. Blocking traffic contributes to unsafe congestion and prevents staff from supervising effectively.
  • Follow all staff guidance. Our staff members are outside to support safety—not to inconvenience anyone. Please treat them with respect and follow their directions immediately.

We understand that mornings and afternoons can be busy and rushed. However, no one’s schedule or convenience can outweigh the need to keep every child safe. Small individual choices can have significant consequences when traffic is involved.

Working Together for Student Safety

As a community, we each play an essential role in modelling responsibility and care. We ask all families to recommit to following the parking lot procedures every single day. When all parents cooperate, our routines run smoothly and safely for everyone.

Our Catholic School Council will also be discussing possible additional strategies at the next meeting. If you have suggestions or ideas, please feel free to reach out to our council co‑chairs, Mrs. Ferreira and Mrs. MacInnis.

Thank you for your continued partnership, and for doing your part to help keep our students safe.

Dress Code

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) remains committed to fostering a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment where all students feel a sense of belonging and can achieve success. Dress codes and school uniforms are designed to support diversity, accessibility, safety, and the dignity of all students.

On January 28, 2025, the Board of Trustees approved updates to Policy P-2006 Dress Code and School Uniform. As part of these changes, dress code expectations now require that students ensure the area from the top of the shoulders to mid-thigh is covered.

Additionally, the DPCDSB dress code continues to prohibit any clothing with messages that contain or depict offensive or inappropriate content. Students are not permitted to wear attire that promotes:

• Hate

• Discrimination

• Illegal activity

• Profanity

• Violence

• Political language

• Threats to health and safety

• Any content that violates the Ontario Human Rights Code

We appreciate your support in ensuring our schools remain welcoming and respectful spaces for all students.

Change in weather

At this time we would like to remind all students to dress appropriately for the season by wearing the proper spring attire which should include hats, coats and boots. When students are dressed properly for the changing conditions, they can go outside and enjoy some fresh air and activity in comfort.

  • By directing your tax support to the Separate (Catholic) School System:

    • You may vote for Catholic School Trustees in Municipal elections
    • Your children may attend Catholic elementary schools
    • You show your support for the Catholic school system

To verify that you are registered as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter:

    • Check the assessment section of your Tax Bill or Property Assessment Notice
    • Check your Voter Information Card received during an election year (2022)

    Have you moved?

Even if you have been an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter in the past, the designation DOES NOT follow you when you relocate. By default, your property taxes support your municipality's English public school board. Every time you move or if there is a change of ownership, it is essential that you register yourself as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter.

To register as an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter or change your Direction of School Support, please contact the DPCDSB Admissions Department by phone at 905-890-0708 ext. 24512 or by email at admissions@dpcdsb.org.

Self-Identification Option for Indigenous Families

If you are First Nation (Status Indian or Non-Status Indian), Métis and/or Inuit you can self-identify as Indigenous. You do not need to produce any documentation or proof of ancestry. Self-identification is voluntary and confidential. “This has been really important for us because of the sense of community and the connection to other Indigenous families.” ~ Melanie Cormier, parent.

Self-identification will provide access to culture and language programs and monthly programming for students and families. Relevant information will be sent directly to you about upcoming cultural events and opportunities which help to build community and a sense of Indigenous pride in Dufferin-Peel.
