This Week at Waters - February 20
February 20, 2026
Waters Families,
This year we are revising our Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP) for Waters. The CIWP is a three-year vision for achieving our school's mission. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey below. There will be additional opportunities for families to engage in the CIWP process on Wednesday, April 1 and Wednesday, May 20 in person.
The LSC Candidate Forum is this coming Tuesday at 6:00 PM in the Garden Annex. The staff, community and parent candidates will share their statements and there will be chance to ask questions as well. Students will have their own forum during school on Thursday.
Finally, there are still some spots available for Waters summer programs. Please see the signup link below.
With kindness,
Mr. R.

Occupational Therapist Corner - Regulation Strategies
Regulation Strategies
Identify current arousal level according to Inverted-U Model (pictured below)
Identify what direction the student/child needs to go
Attempt a strategy
To down regulate (decrease arousal): slow, calm and familiar activities.
Let your calm be contagious (an elevated child can not be de-escalated by an elevated adult)
Deep breathing (6th grade +); slow, sloth counting (pk-5th)
Development position; on belly with one side bent, one side straight. We refer to it at school as splat. Hold position for 6 to 10 breaths, switch sides and hold again.
To up regulate (increase arousal): quick, novel and loud activities.
Dance parties
Yoga-like videos (Danny-go, cosmic yoga)
Jumping, sitting on ball
Let your excitement spread
Next week: Why Splat?
Splat Position - Waters Kindergartners have already been practicing and some staff too!
