What is a Work Sample?
Work Samples are simply evidence of what your student is learning submitted to me each Learning Period before your Learning Period Meeting. This should be your student's BEST work. It can be a worksheet, diagram, powerpoint, IXL lesson, and much more.
High School Student Work Samples
High School students MUST upload a sample from each subject into Scout for each Learning Period.
Work Sample Labeling
Every work sample should have the following heading:
Student Name: First and last name IN STUDENT'S HANDWRITING (Full legal name please, not nicknames) (Parents please write their name again if the student's handwriting is not legible)
Subject: Math, Science, Language Arts (ELA), or Social Studies
Date: Must include the year and be within the LP and NO WEEKENDS
Parent Grade: TK-3rd can be grade, smiley faces or stickers that have a comment. No cartoon stickers. 4th-12th needs to be percentage or letter grade
How often are work samples collected?
At each LP meeting, I will review a body of your student's work. If we meet via Zoom, I ask that you submit work samples before our meeting so I can review them, provide feedback, and see more of what your student is working on!
AB 126 UPDATE
Under California Assembly Bill 126 (AB 126), a new state law for independent study charter schools, I will collect one work sample from each subject during every Learning Period. These work samples are required for all students and help our school comply with California's independent study requirements.
- TK–8th Grade: One work sample will be collected from English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics (Math), Science, and Social Studies.
- High School (9th–12th Grade): One work sample will be collected from each course the student is enrolled in.
Thank you for uploading work samples throughout each Learning Period when requested. Your partnership is greatly appreciated and helps make this process smooth for everyone!
