Hilltop Elementary School

April 7th

Hilltop ElementarySchool April 7th

We have seen an increase of students with head lice this school year. Please be diligent in checking your child's scalp at home, reporting to the school any instances of active lice, and treating your child's scalp if they have lice.

Some helpful tips are

  • Girls should wear their hair in a ponytail or braids. Hairspray also can create barrier that make it more difficult for lice to settle in your child's scalp
  • Encourage children to be mindful of head-to-head contact with others, especially during play or other activities
  • Your child's stuffed animals and bedding should be washed and dried in high temperature settings

In connection to Module 2: Animal Defense Mechanisms, the students of 4A are pictured sharing their Venn Diagrams. Each team was assigned two animals that are often confused for one another. Over the course of a few days, the students collaborated to gather information, design their posters, and present to their classmates. Each student was responsible to speak about their group's poster and even respond to questions from the audience. Thanks to these informative presentations, we now know how to spot the differences between these similar creatures!

Students worked together to read a text and identify all the similarities and differences. They used those facts to create a Venn diagram poster that they presented to their classmates.
