Increase in Cell Phone Violations πŸ“΅ Increase in Cell Phone Violations πŸ“΅

Parents-We have seen an increase in student cell phone use lately and would love your help in reminding the kids of the cell phone/electronic device policy in place (linked below). Even "checking their phone quickly" can result in a cell phone violation and lead to a suspension. Sending texts to your child while they are at school encourages them to break the rules. Having a phone or other electronic device out during school can also lead to a testing violation with the upcoming state testing.

Personal Electronic Device Policy

Pursuant to ACPSD Board Policy JICJ, students are prohibited from utilizing personal electronic devices or accessories during the instructional school day.

For this policy, personal electronic device means any device utilized to access the internet, wi-fi, cellular telephone signals, or to capture images or video. This includes, but is not limited to cell phones, smart watches, tablets, and gaming devices.

This also includes the use of accessories. Personal electronic device accessories include any wired or wireless accessory or wearable technology that connects to a device and any other accessory commonly used in conjunction with a personal electronic device.

Although middle and high school students may possess a personal electronic device, the device should not be activated or utilized for any function unless specifically authorized as part of an instructional directive by a teacher or other classroom supervisor. Unless school-specific exceptions apply, the above specified devices should be turned off and placed out of sight and not in use during instructional day. This rule applies during established school day hours and at off-campus activities during the school day. (Principals may further restrict use before and after school as necessary.)

For each violation the student will be informed that he or she is in violation of the Electronic Device Policy, and the student will be asked to turn the device off and put it away. A referral for Cell Phone Violation (Code 330) will be entered.

Warmer weather brings shorter skirts or shorter shorts for all. Please be mindful of what your child(ren) are wearing to school and help us by ensuring that their clothes are school-appropriate.

Important Reminders for Parents Important Reminders for Parents

  • Please email excuses for absences to LMMSAttendance@acpsd.net
  • To limit disruptions during the school day and to encourage students to be responsible for their own items, we will not accept items dropped off at the school past 9:30am.
  • We cannot accept outside food items such as fast food or Door Dash-type deliveries for students.
  • Also, please remember that students should not be dropped off and left unattended prior to 7:30am as we do not have staff supervision prior to this time.
  • Parents should use the carline driveway to drop off and pick up students and not use the staff lot. The staff lot is for staff members only.

Important Information About School-Issued Computers πŸ’» Important Information About School-Issued Computers πŸ’»

Help us teach your children/our students about the importance of internet safety. We have had a recent increase in students viewing inappropriate material or emailing peers about inappropriate topics on their school laptops both at school and in their homes before or after school hours. While the district does have filters on the searches, no filter can catch everything. Middle schoolers are very clever and figure out ways around the safety features. We highly encourage you to speak to your children about internet safety and further encourage you to monitor your child's computer use while at home.

Students who engage in inappropriate searches on their school-issued laptop during or outside of school hours may be subject to disciplinary actions including having their laptops revoked.
