All medications must be hand delivered by the parent or guardian to the nurse. This includes all students who "Self-Administer" and/or "Self Carry" medications. The nurse must verify all orders before students are allowed to carry and self-administer their medications. The nurse or certified medication assistant will count all controlled substances in the presence of the parent or guardian. Students are not allowed to carry medication on them while at school without proper physician orders giving permission to carry medication. The student is not allowed to “self-carry” a controlled substance. This medication will be kept in the nurse's office.

As we begin the second year of implementing the Alabama FOCUS Act, we want to remind students, employees and families that this statewide law prohibits student use of cell phones, smartwatches, AirPods, and other wireless communication devices throughout the instructional school day. Athens City Schools remains committed to following the law while providing a distraction-free learning environment where students can stay focused, engaged, and ready to learn. We appreciate the continued partnership of our families as students adjust to these expectations and develop healthy habits that support academic success. Families are encouraged to review the district's expectations, exceptions, consequences, and frequently asked questions by visiting acs-k12.org/focus. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help every Golden Eagle soar to success.
