Happy Friday!

One more week until the winter break!

Please remind students that they should only use umbrellas on their walk to/from school. We will have students keep umbrellas in their backpacks for the day. Ideally, raincoats and boots are the best to have at school as shoes get wet and we do not have enough extra pairs for all of the soggy feet! Extra clothes is always good to have in their backpack, as kids get wet and they want to change to be cozy! All of this rainy weather making for a bunch of very soggy kids!

One Week Sock Drive!!

Dec. 15-19

Green Lake Elementary Student Council is leading a sock drive – please consider donating new sock (kid or adult). Our goal is at least 100 pairs of socks!

Your child can bring them to school up until Friday, Dec. 19.

All socks will be donated to Family Works!

Drills

We have mandatory monthly emergency drills. These include earthquake, fire/evacuation, lockdown, and shelter in place drills on a rotating basis throughout the year. Staff get the drill schedule well before the drill to be able to prepare students, especially for alarm sound sensitive students. these are just practice drills and we try to make sure that students take them seriously, at the same time aren't freaked out/scared as we are just practicing what we will do to keep everyone safe in the event of any emergency.

Next Friday Dec 19 Special Dance Assembly

At 9:15 a.m., on Friday Dec. 19, 3rd and 5th grade students will be performing the dances they have been learning from a dance residency teacher at a special assembly! Come and watch! If your student is performing please have them wear all black. Please also have them wear shoes that are not crocs/slides. Kids have been reminded but another reminder can't hurt! Hope to see you there!

Have a great week!

Warmly,

Liz McFarland (she/her)

Ultimate Frisbee Volunteers Needed!

Our incredible Green Lake Dragons Ultimate Frisbee Team will be starting up again in February and we need some parent volunteers to help with the after-school practices. Ideally, we’re looking for volunteers who have played Ultimate before and know the game, but mostly our coaches (Mr. Leahy and Ms. Merlin) would love to have some parents who can consistently come every week and help run drills out on the playfields at Green Lake.

If that sounds like it might be you, please email enrichment@greenlakedragons.org

Practices will be Mondays after school until 5 p.m. starting in February and continuing into the Spring. Have a kid with you? Let’s figure out how to make it work!

If you’re interested, please reach out to enrichment@greenlakedragons.org

After-School Enrichment Coordinator(s) needed!

We need a new After-School Class coordinator for next year, and the best time to get trained is now! This is a bigger job so the PTA has a budget to pay someone to coordinate this awesome program that brings fun, joy and learning to so many of our students. We can also split the job up for 2 people to work together on it!

Job duties include:

  • Choosing our class lineup
  • Working with vendors to get them scheduled
  • Communicating with families about class sign-ups
  • Working with the school to find good classroom spaces for each class, and to let them know what kids are registered
  • Working with our on-site coordinators to make sure we have someone at the school every afternoon to check kids in.

We already have 2-3 people who do our on-site coordinating every day, so our new After-School Enrichment Coordinator doesn't have to come into the school to do that bit and can do most of this job remotely!

This would be a great position for someone who is organized, loves a good puzzle, and thinks play is just as important as learning for our kids.

Please reach out to enrichment@greenlakedragons.org if you're interested or have any questions.

Bake Sale - Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who baked goodies, came to volunteer, or bought some treats this weekend! Our second annual "Tree Sale Bake Sale" brought in a bit over $1,000 that will go towards things like music class, classroom supplies, after-school class scholarships, library books and more!

There are a few more weeks of the Tree Sale left and they still need help, so make sure you get a chance to volunteer!
