Champion Families,

With Spring just around the corner, we are gearing up for a very busy March here at Chattahoochee. Our Champions will be safe, connected and thriving throughout the month and families will find many ways to be involved on campus.

Officer Cheek will begin his new afternoon patrol station at the intersection of Holtzclaw Road and the main entrance of Chattahoochee from 2:20-2:40 each day through the end of the school year. He does not have a back-up, so should you arrive in the PM car rider line and Officer Cheek is not present, then he was likely needed for a more urgent safety call on campus.

Literacy Week brought pages of fun from March 2-6 as students celebrated their love of reading all week! Students in grades KK-5 are currently taking part in the third round of Universal Screening (i-ready - March 2nd-March 12th) as they make connections with their learning progress. March 13th will be an Online Learning Day for students and the date for possible spring teacher/parent conferences. Our Spring Book Fair runs from March 15-20 and is brimming with wonderful adventures for all levels of readers. The late night for the bookfair will take place on March 20th.

NEW! Heritage Night will take place on March 20th and guarantees to be a fun time for our families to celebrate and learn about the various countries and cultures represented in our Chattahoochee school family. Please reach out to Ksarfaty@forsyth.k12.ga.us for more information.

The cast and crew of Beauty and the Beast continue to thrive in rehearsals for the big performances which take place on March 30th and March 31st at 6pm for families and March 31st during the day for our Champion students. Look for more information coming soon for this amazing school-wide field trip opportunity. We will conclude this exciting month with Staff Appreciation week March 30-April 3 (sponsored by the CES PTO). We know how very much we all appreciate the amazing staff here at Chattahoochee! It promises to be an outstanding week of gratitude.

We appreciate all of the support and kindness we feel each day from our dedicated Champion community. We look forward to seeing you soon on campus!

Every day is a great day to be a Champion,

Jill

Quick Tips from Our Clinic

Help keep our school healthy with these simple reminders:

  • Stay home when sick—especially with fever, flu‑like symptoms, or vomiting. Return only after being fever‑free for 24 hours without medication.
  • Wash hands often for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after coughing or sneezing.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow.
  • Avoid touching your face (eyes, nose, mouth).
  • Healthy habits matter—get good sleep, drink water, and eat nutritious meals.

Digital Citizenship Digital Citizenship

Champions continue to learn how to be a good digital citizen. In March, students will explore Age Appropriateness and Tech Laws through our Neptune Navigate digital citizenship curriculum. This module helps students understand that just like sports teams are divided by age to keep the game fair and safe, the digital world has age restrictions to protect young users.

Why Age Restrictions Matter

Many popular apps and social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube require users to be at least 13 years old. These rules are not just "suggestions"; they are often rooted in the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), a law designed to protect the personal information of children under 13.

This month's lessons highlight that ignoring these restrictions can lead to:

  • Exposure to Harmful Content: Seeing images or messages that are scary, unkind, or confusing.

  • Privacy Risks: Accidentally sharing personal data with strangers or hackers.

  • Digital Footprint Impact: Creating an online trail that could affect their reputation before they are old enough to understand the long-term consequences.

The "Max & Emma" Lessons

Students hear cautionary stories, like those of Max and Emma, who lied about their age to join sites for older kids. Through these stories, they learn that "bending the rules" can lead to uncomfortable interactions with strangers and cyberbullying.

Continue the Conversation at Home

You can help reinforce these "Digital MVP" habits by asking your child a few simple questions:

  1. Why do you think some games or websites are only for older kids?

  2. What might happen if someone lies about their age when signing up for an app?

  3. If a new app asks for your birthdate, what should you do? (Hint: Always ask a parent before joining!)

By following these guidelines together, we can help our students stay safe and build a positive digital foundation. For more information on what we’re learning, visit neptunenavigate.com.

Absence Reminders

If your student is marked absent and you use our school QR code attendance form to indicate a medical excuse, please remember that the actual medical documentation must be submitted to the front office.

You may send the medical excuse in one of the following ways:

  • Email it directly to the front office (chattattendance@forsyth.k12.ga.us), or
  • Send it through your student’s teacher

This helps us ensure that all absences are properly documented and excused. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for helping us maintain accurate attendance records.
