From the HelmKeeping the Crew up to Date! Volume 2 Issue 12-11/12/23

Greetings Clipper Nation!

Report cards will go live on the 14th. Now is an excellent time to make sure you have the Family Portal app on your phone. Directions on how to add it to an iPhone and Android are below in the newsletter. By using the portal, you can view grades, check attendance, and review student information for accuracy. This year, we will give students a paper copy of their grades, which we will hand out on the 15th. However, the app allows you to monitor grades throughout the term easily.

If you have a student who has earned a failing grade, please sign them up for Step-up, where they can work on getting passing grades in their class.

Parents and guardians of seniors, to stay current, check out the Senior section in the newsletter specifically for senior information.

Since we only have two days of school the following week, this parent message covers this week and next. Next Sunday, there will be no phone call or email, but you will get a text message to review the newsletter.

*Monday is World Kindness Day. We are encouraging students and staff to wear shirts with a kindness messages.

College Essay Support for Seniors:

We have good news for seniors who are working on their college essays! Mrs. Taylor and Ms. Cahall are ready to review your college essays and provide feedback starting on Monday, October 2 – Sunday, December 31.

Here’s how it works:

You will need to email either Mrs. Taylor or Ms. Cahall (both are JMB English teachers) letting them know you would like them to review your essay. They will add you in on the assignment on Google Classroom where all communication about your essay will occur. At that point, you will upload your essay, the writing prompt or question that you are responding to along with any questions or comments about the essay you have sent.

Contact information for Participating JMB Teachers:

Mrs. Chelsea Taylor: chtaylor@wcboe.org

Ms. Jennifer Cahall: jcahall@wcboe.org

Of course, if there is another teacher you would like to review your essays you are welcome to contact them, but Mrs. Taylor and Ms. Cahall are the teachers that are part of this project. They are looking forward to reading your essays and supporting you through this process!

How to Stay in the Know?

The best way to stay in the know is to make sure we have accurate information on file. Please look over all the information on the Student Personal Data and Enrollment Information Form as this is the information we currently have on file for you. Make any corrections to the form in blue. If you need additional space for emergency contact use a separate sheet of paper. Sign the back of the form and return it to the school. If you prefer to fill out a new form you can find a copy on our website.
