Voice of Democracy Contest

All RHHS students in grades 9–12 are invited to participate in the VFW Voice of Democracy audio-essay scholarship competition. This year’s theme is:
“What a Veteran Taught Me About America”
Entries are due to the local VFW Post by October 31. More than $170,000 in national scholarships will be awarded, including a $35,000 first-place scholarship. RHHS has had several winners in the past, and we strongly encourage all students to participate!

Students can learn more and submit their entries through Scholar’s App. Paper applications are also available here.

Please note: We recommend submitting entries one week early to allow time to gather any missing application materials. Students submitting online must tag their application to “Post 8902’s VOD Scholarship.” If the correct VFW Post is not selected, the application will not be visible to the local Post.

For questions or assistance, please contact hamlettgh@gmail.com

• Elective exams will take place on a non-SOL test day as determined by the teacher during the regular class meeting time. In an effort to more evenly distribute testing, some elective exams

may be scheduled for the week before/ after SOL testing. Your teacher will provide an exam date.

• Core content exams will take place on the SOL test days but during the normal class time.

• WE WILL OPERATE ON A NORMAL BELL SCHEDULE DURING ALL TESTING DAYS!

Note the changes to the RHHS/CMS traffic patterns for the upcoming school year.

  • Both RHHS and CMS parent traffic will enter and exit the Death Valley Lot using the opposite traffic pattern from last school year, so please pay close attention to the posted signage.
  • Please do not enter the Death Valley Lot prior to 2:45 p.m. for afternoon pickup.
  • A new turning lane has been added on Statesman Drive near the Alternative Education Building. As you travel on Statesman Drive, please watch carefully for students and staff using the crosswalks and drive at a safe speed.
  • Student drivers will exit the student parking lot using Evergreen Road.
  • RHHS students should continue to be dropped off near the Guidance Building beginning no earlier than 7:45 a.m. The cafeteria doors will open at 7:45 a.m.
  • Buses will load and unload at the auditorium.
  • Due to construction, no vehicles will be permitted to travel through the back bus court.
  • For CMS families, the only change this year is the entrance and exit pattern for the Death Valley Lot during afternoon dismissal. All other arrival and dismissal procedures remain the same for CMS.

Statesmen Care Program

Randolph-Henry High School will continue the Statesmen Care program thanks to the donations of our generous community. Our main hall restrooms feature a donation shelf for personal care products to be used by our young men and women. By placing these items in the restrooms, students can discreetly obtain what is needed without the embarrassment of having to ask. We hope that with the continuation of this program all of our Statesmen will feel fresh and ready to learn each day! Being clean and healthy builds confidence, promotes good attendance, and can help prevent bullying. Students will be allowed to take what they need free of charge and with no questions asked. Donations can be dropped off at the school between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday-Friday. For more information, you may contact Mrs. Davis, Principal of Randolph-Henry High School, at 434-542-4111. Suggested items: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouth wash, brushes/combs, lip balm, menstruation items, and cleansing wipes. *Please no razors or wax. Monetary donations are also accepted. Please make checks payable to RHHS Statesmen Care.

We also offer a Statesmen Supply Cart for students who may run out of a needed item during the school day. Basic supplies such as paper, pens, notecards, and pencils are free of charge for all students. School supply donations are accepted throughout the year.

📢 Important Announcement: Virginia’s New Bell-to-Bell Cell Phone-Free Education

Bell-to-bell cell phone-free education is required by law in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a result, Randolph-Henry High School will be required to fully comply with this statewide mandate.

Under the law, students may not use or access cell phones or smart devices from the first bell of the school day to the last bell of the day—this includes:

  • During class time

  • In hallways between class periods

  • During lunch

If a student needs to contact a parent or guardian during the school day, they will be permitted to use the school’s main office phone. Likewise, parents needing to reach their child should call the school directly, and a message will be delivered. We ask for your support as we implement this new requirement. Please take a moment to discuss these expectations with your child prior to the start of the school year. Our goal is to create a focused, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment for all students.

Statesmen Fan Expectations For Home Events

In an intentional effort to keep everyone safe at our home events this year, we ask that you review our spectator code of conduct. Students who are currently serving a suspension are not permitted at school athletic events. Students who violate these rules at a school event are subject to school discipline. Both students and guests who behave in a manner that is inappropriate or disruptive may be removed and restricted from future athletic events. For the safety of all guests, metal detectors may be used at the gate and spectators who exit will not be allowed reentry.

Seating:

  • Football: All fans must be either seated in the stands or standing/sitting along the fence line watching the game, unless you are going to the restroom or the concessions stand. Be expected to be redirected if you are not in these authorized areas.

  • Volleyball/Basketball/Wrestling: All fans must be seated in the stands unless you are going to the restroom or the concessions stand. The area behind the players benches will be labeled as "event personnel only". Fans must be seated on the opposite side of the gym. There will be no congregating or horse playing in the lobby. Be expected to be redirected if you are not in these authorized areas.

  • Baseball/Softball/Soccer/Tennis: Fans may be seated in the bleachers or their own personal chairs & blankets. Fans may stand along the fencing/spectator areas. Children/fans should not congregate in unsupervised areas, toss balls that could strike other guests, enter wooded areas, climb trees, or utilize the batting cages.

You can be asked to leave the game due to:

  1. Possession/use of drugs, alcohol, weapons, or other illegal/banned items.

  2. Intoxication or signs of a drug/alcohol related impairment.

  3. Use of tobacco products on school grounds. (Ex: Smoking, Vaping, Dipping)

  4. Conduct that results in a destruction of school and/or personal property.

  5. Any conduct that is deemed inappropriate, dangerous, disruptive, sexual or unsportsmanlike by administrative staff or law enforcement.

  6. Use of offensive, foul, abusive, or discriminatory language and/or gestures.

  7. Refusal to follow the directives of administrative staff or law enforcement.

  8. Involvement in or instigation of a verbal/physical altercation, argument, or confrontation.

  9. Any unsportsmanlike behavior directed towards coaches, officials, players or other spectators. Please enjoy the game and encourage all of our students.
