Tiger Talk
01/13/26

Dear Tiger Families,
Welcome back to a brand-new semester at West Cypress Hills! It has been wonderful to see our students return with energy, smiles, and a renewed focus on learning. Our teachers are fully engaged in helping every Tiger not only grow, but truly reach their greatest potential as we continue our journey from Growth to Greatness.
This semester is already off to a strong start, and we are excited about the learning, leadership, and opportunities ahead. Please take a moment to read through this week’s newsletter, as it is filled with important updates, celebrations, and upcoming events for our Tiger Family.
With gratitude,
Amy Russ

Perfect Attendance
Congratulations to our Tigers with perfect attendance during the second nine weeks of school, October 13 through December 19. As promised, each Tiger who had perfect attendance during that time period will receive a coupon for a free treat from Bahama Bucks!
Be on the lookout for your Tiger’s coupon to come home in his/her backpack this week.
Thank you for your excellent efforts in ensuring your children get to school. Please, keep up the good work!
Tomorrow, January 14, we dress as our Future Careers!

Classroom Guidance
This month at WCHE, we’re channeling that new-year energy into conversations about goals and growth! During guidance lessons, our Tigers will take part in activities that encourage them to reflect on their personal strengths, explore topics and subjects they enjoy, and identify what motivates them to do their best.
I’m so excited to see what our students discover and to continue learning more about each and every one of them along the way. Our students are our future, and it is truly a privilege to engage in these meaningful conversations and activities with them.
5th to 6th Grade Transition
Speaking of goals and growth, this month marks the beginning of our 5th graders’ exciting transition to 6th grade at Lake Travis Middle School (LTMS)! From instrument fittings to class registration, students will be taking important steps to set themselves up for both success- and fun- in middle school. We are so proud of their hard work!
Interested in learning more about middle school? LTMS will be hosting a parent night for 5th grade parents on January 29 from 5:30–6:15 p.m. Please see the flyer below for more important dates and additional information.
Mentors Wanted!
We are seeking caring, supportive adults in our community who are interested in serving as mentors for our students. Mentors provide a listening ear, encouragement, and positive connection that can make a meaningful difference in a student’s success- both in school and in life.
Mentors work with one student at a time and can schedule meetings around their availability, spending 30–60 minutes weekly or every other week. If you are motivated to give back and build a supportive relationship with a student, we would love to hear from you.
Please contact Ms. Bryn at lohrbergb@ltisdschools.org for more information.

School Library Advisory Council
In response to Senate Bill 13, our Board of Trustees has established the Lake Travis ISD School Library Advisory Council (SLAC.) The purpose of the SLAC is to formalize a collaborative process between librarians, parents, and community members in the ongoing development of strong library collections that support student achievement and meet state standards. This process helps ensure transparency, parent involvement, and a strong library program that strengthens student achievement while nurturing a lifelong appreciation, habit, and love of reading.
The SLAC works with librarians and district staff to develop a recommended list of library materials for procurement, including donated titles. At least 30 days before the Board’s vote, the proposed procurement list will be made publicly available for parents and community members to review and provide feedback. The Board will review these recommendations, consider any proposed changes, and make the final decision to approve or reject the materials. The SLAC will also recommend procedures for handling challenges to library materials and review challenges according to law before making recommendations to the Board.
Visit the SLAC webpage to access the Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List, Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List Feedback Form, and the Library Materials Challenge Form.
For questions or additional information regarding SLAC reviews or library material challenges, please contact Tasha Barker at watersbarkert@ltisdschools.org, or at 512-533-6036.
